Is Treasurer Dr. John Fleming MAGA enough to defeat MAGAless Cassidy?

DR. JOHN FLEMING ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR U.S. SENATE SEAT

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana - Declaring “my fight has always been to put our citizens, our taxpayers, and our nation first, ” Louisiana State Treasurer, John Fleming, MD, Republican, announced his candidacy for the United States Senate in the election to be held in 2026. This seat is currently occupied by Bill Cassidy.

Fleming is a military veteran, a former naval officer, a family physician, former Congressman for the 4th Congressional District from 2009-2017 which comprised much of Northwest Louisiana, a successful businessman, and served as the Senior Advisor to President Donald Trump before being elected as Louisiana State
Treasurer in 2023.

“I cannot fully express the deep sense of pride I have, having served President Trump in the West Wing of the White House as he was literally fighting for his political life against those who were attacking him and turning their backs on him,” Fleming commented, “but the opportunity to stand with him for the principles of America First is why I seek to serve the citizens of Louisiana in the United States Senate.”

Fleming gained recognition for his strong, conservative leadership when he, along with eight other members of Congress, founded the House Freedom Caucus to fight for conservative principles and against the liberal policies of the Obama Administration, the Washington establishment, and liberal Republicans.

“A number of Republicans walked away from President Trump in the last year of his first term,” Fleming opined, “but those who turned their backs on him and America First were not committed to his fight to make America great
again.” “Louisiana citizens did not give up on this fight,” Fleming continued.

“Louisiana deserves a true conservative voice in this seat in the United States Senate,” Fleming said, “and, as someone who stands with President Trump and understands the challenges and opportunities facing our people, I am ready to deliver the conservative leadership Louisiana needs to thrive and prosper.”

“Senator Cassidy has failed the people of Louisiana,” Fleming continued. Fleming noted Cassidy voted to convict President Trump in the highly political second impeachment process. Moreover, Fleming cited Cassidy’s
“outrageous” comments about President Trump since this vote saying these comments “show fundamental disregard for the will of Louisiana voters”, including Cassidy’s failure to endorse President Trump in 2024.

Fleming and his wife, Cindy, have been married for 46 years and they are the parents of four grown children and six grandchildren.
Fleming also commented on Cassidy’s support of some of the key elements of the progressive agenda of the Biden/Harris administration including the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act which contained numerous anti- Second Amendment provisions and the $1.1 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act which has been labeled as part of the Democrats’ “bad process” of woke and reckless spending by various conservative organizations. At
the time the Infrastructure Act was passed, the nation’s debt stood at roughly $30 trillion but, today, the nation’s debt has grown to over $36 trillion.

“I intend to join with President Trump’s fight to aggressively control federal spending and start tackling our nation’s debt,” Fleming commented.

Noting that Cassidy has a record of “being on both sides of the immigration issue depending on the political circumstances,” Fleming pledged his commitment to seeing the southern border wall finished, the border closed, and the implementation of President Trump’s deportation plans. “Illegal immigration has resulted in an invasion in our country from countries worldwide which has resulted in human trafficking, illegal drugs like fentanyl, and the literal killing of American citizens,” Fleming observed. “I stand firm in favor of President Trump’s efforts and his forthcoming actions,” Fleming pledged, “and it’s time Louisiana citizens have a senator they can count on when it comes to illegal immigration!”

Dr. Fleming came from humble beginnings, growing up in a working-class family, supporting himself and working his way through college after his father’s sudden passing. “I am strongly supportive of the Republican Party’s efforts to expand and include working men and women in our efforts to change the direction of our country,”
Fleming said. “Things like no taxes on tips, no taxes on overtime pay, and no taxes on Social Security are exactly the kind of policies every Louisianian needs to make a living and build a better life for their children and grandchildren,” Fleming said. “Working men and women, working families, and those who believe in hard work will find a United States Senator in me that will fight for the things that matter most to them, better jobs, more take home pay, and conservative values,”

“I will fight to bring real, conservative solutions to the U.S. Senate, I will not cut-and-run on these conservative principles, and I will stand and work with President Trump like I have many times before,” Fleming concluded.

I suspect someone will remind him of the impeachment vote, if he doesn't recall it.

I think he can do it.

That being said it’s gonna be interesting to see who the Dems pull in off the bench. A sitting Republican senator from south Louisiana vs the Republican state treasurer from North Louisiana on the surface is pretty good situation for the Dems if they run the right candidate assuming republicans beat each other up in the primaries and piss off the other’s base like the gubernatorial races in 15 and 19.

Does anyone look at Cassidy as having particular "regional ties" at this point?

What South Louisianan is looking at him and saying "Yeah, buddy, he's my baw, over some North Louisianan!"?

I said the same thing about JBE two elections in a row, but trust me, some were out there.

ETA well in 2019. In 2015 I just said “how could anyone vote for him?”
