Following LSU signing day as 40+ year old

I used to follow LSU football recruiting religiously from 2000 to 2010 and beyond. I used to pay for Rivals yearly subscription which was the only seemingly reputable site before they went full bama retards.
I was in MCAT class on signing day night with Matt Mauck and we went check the internet to see Jamarcus had signed with us. Matt was more excited than me and the rest of us.
I only follow from afar and sparingly now in past 5-10 years. I check this board once every 1-2 weeks. I don’t know how you guys can do it in the new age of portal and NIL and buying players. I’d have a heart attack or severe gastric reflux watching what’s going on now in 2024.
Anyway, thanks for following daily and giving us scoops. It’s certainly not for the faint at heart anymore. Godspeed.

Rember seeing one or two highlights of him on the local news throwing the ball n it was a tight spiral with some spin on it and I was estatic thinking he's going to be so good. Lmao.... It was just so much cooler back then when 85% of your team was from Louisiana and we just went out and grabed a few high profile guys from out of state. Its hard to even care anymore. Ill always be a fan but the excitement is gone.

I’m 58 and still very passionate but I’ll tell you it’s fading quickly! I understand it’s a new game now and I’m good with it but it has changed the landscape of college football. We will have to have parity some kind of way!

I still like following hs recruiting. I’ve just gotten to where I am indifferent. You say you love a school and are shutting everything down….then more money drops and you bolt. I feel the same with the portal.

If you’re gonna follow recruiting these days, I’d only do it to keep track of who is who. Maybe keep a closer eye on Louisiana prospects..
But you’re right, I’m in my mid 30s, and used to follow it like you and a lot of the rest of us, but these days there’s almost no point.

I still enjoy following recruiting for the most part. I only started following in 2016. Rashard Lawrence was the first big commit I remember following. It’s definitely not as fun to follow as years past. ESD took away a lot of signing day excitement.
Within the last couple of years I’ve realized that if you can get 10 good players out of a class you are doing really good. And honestly LSU hasnt hit that mark much recently. Point being you sign 20+ players and only a handful pan out. I’ve found it hard to get excited about all the new players after this realization.
I will say losing Underwood was probably the biggest gut punch I’ve had following recruiting. I was quite excited for LSU to finally pull a big time QB and him lead a national championship run. All gone because of bullshite NIL buying high school players which frankly should be illegal. It chaps my arse that LSU put itself in position to pull a big recruit with recent QB success and actually recruited a kid the right way and was stolen from us.

The year we signed Marcus Spears and company was the most excited I've ever been with recruiting. That class laid the foundation for the success LSU has achieved over the years.

Over 40 and my highlight national signing day was Ryan Perrilloux. Also got a chance to hang out with him at our LSU tailgate , great guy stayed with us all day and drank and shot the shite with us. I know CSB!

I’m 44, and been following recruiting since I was in high school. I remember when we got Kevin Faulk. Changed the whole game.
Anyway I don’t think recruiting has aged me at all

With the direction all this is going, I wouldn't be surprised if more teams went back to this.

CSB.
Seems like it was late in the evening when he announced.

I am 55 and can remember the fun days of recruiting. I once found out some friends were driving hours away to watch hopeful prospects (not even commits yet!) in their Friday night high school games. I was like damn you guys need to get away from your wives ha ha.
I also remember the crazy drama of stuff like Reuben Randle’s family having coaches shoo that other committed WR to Southern Miss because they didn’t get along. Now the “drama” is going to be what donor showed up at last minute with more NIL.
Also, the portal killed traditional recruiting. Now CBK is graded on how well he recruits players to stay out of the portal each year. All good things must come to an end….

same here... then I found this place, and never left....
but yeah, following recruiting now is damn near pointless.... definitely less excited about verbal commits than I used to be... don't feel the need to expend as much time and energy to follow it either....

lol I go back to the Josh Booty year. Thinking he was gonna be the savior. Really got into it Dinardo’s first year when we signed Kevin Faulk. I used to wait for my copy of Tigerrag to be in the mailbox every Thursday to see what was going on. Then on Saturday mornings I’d tune in to Countdown to Signing day with Forest Davis
Damn just typing that took me back lmao

I'm a little bit the same. After everything that went on with Rueben Randle and what felt like a circus, I told myself I would never again let myself get so invested in what a teenager decides. I felt foolish at how much emotion I spent on in it as an almost 30 year old with bills

37 here. The Les Miles years were fun as well. While we lost a lot from Saban we also stole a good deal from him and others

LSU is about to sign 4 5* and 6 or 7 top 100 guys
Go look back and other LSU classes and see how that compares
