Anyone have any thoughts on their Garmin Instinct? It has decent reviews and a lot of people at my gym seem to love theirs.

I loved my Apple Watch SE, but my biggest problem with it was the battery life and having to constantly take it off to charge it.

I have a venu 2. Works great in all facets. I wore a Whoop for 2 or 3 years and I find all of the sleep, heart rate, etc data was comparable.

You are right about the battery life. If you are not wearing your fitness tracker to sleep it’s essentially useless.

I’ve had the instinct 1 now for 3 or 4 years. It’s perfect - has all the data without all the bells and whistles.

I do think I’m going to upgrade to the 2 before too long for the improved HR sensor and some extra features.

I had a Fitbit before and this obviously blows that out do the water. My wife has gone through 2 or 3 Apple Watches and they all crapped out - she now has a Garmin forerunner (I think) and has loves it

Garmin forerunner

I’m considering one of these. I use an app on my iPhone to measure time/distance when I jog and also listen to music. It’s time to grow up and wear a watch instead of carrying my phone around. I don’t need anything fancy - just something that announces different intervals ( 1/2Km’s ideal) and plays downloaded music. Forerunner line seems to fit the bill.

I have the instinct 2 solar. I haven’t been able to keep it charged on solar only. I haven’t to put it on the charger every 3-4 weeks.
I really only use it for heart rate and steps. I chose this one because it seemed rugged and has 100m water resistance. I feel like heart rate accuracy isn’t great but I’ve never checked. There are days where my resting heart rate is low 50s and I’m not in that good of shape. Otherwise, no complaint.

I have an Instinct 2. There are things I love about it and things I don't. But in a nutshell, it's better than a Fitbit. I charge it about once every 2 to 3 weeks. It has a built in GPS so you don't have to take your phone on runs/hikes if you don't want. It has less of a smart watch look and more of a tactical look to it. It's indestructible (mostly).

But...it isn't the easiest smart watch/fitness tracker to learn. And I hate the Weight lifting mode on it.

But it is pretty customizable. And unless you want to spend a few hundred more...it is one of the best out there. Sleep tracking is really good as well.

Highly recommend the forerunner series. The thing about Garmin watches is you probably don’t know what you need several years from now so it’s worth jumping into the 955 series off the bat.

I originally had the 235 and later the 735 and I can say they get exponentially better the higher up you go

I love my Instinct 2. I've had it for almost 2 years and have no problems with it. Does everything I need and then some for long runs.

Thanks for this post. I bought one on your recommendation a couple weeks ago and absolutely love it. I hate getting notifications on my wrist so all that is turned off, but the battery and the functions (sleep /exercise) are perfect. I had an apple watch and hated it, and went back to my 10 yr battery casio. The Instinct 2 is simple, rugged and has great battery life.

It takes a second to learn but every time I'd need to figure something out, a quick Google search was all I needed.

Thanks again.

Only regret is maybe I should've went ahead and got the solar tactical edition just bc y not. Got mine on ebay new for 180$ so not mad.

Glad you like it. The battery lasts so long I forget to routinely check it for charge.

Wifey got me the Instinct 2X Solar Tactical as a surprise for Christmas.
This thing is AWESOME. Has a Ballistics calculator and if I feel the need to jump out of a plane it has a jumpmaster mode

There is a learning curve...well for me anyway since it's my first smart watch in years. I'm still learning all it's features, but it's a beast.

Negatives: -No touch screen (which is a pro for me since I would accidentally be pressing things)
- no preloaded maps
-can't store music on the watch ( I don't THINK)

But everything else is stellar
