That holy Mac with the strawberry chutney will never be forgotten
quote:
Pluckers is proud to have been a part of the Baton Rouge community for the past 21 years. As the only franchised locations in operation, the two stores were up for renewal. Our focus is to always deliver the best environment for our guests. During renewal discussions, we requested a number of upgrades to the franchised stores. After many conversations with our franchisee over the economy and the increased costs to upgrade, together we determined that the best decision was to close these locations. We are sad to end this chapter, but we remain excited about the future of Pluckers and our continued expansion.

Used to be my go-to in college. Their onion rights and wings were so good.
Covid ruined this place. It may have been downhill before, but wow Covid did them in.
The Bluebonnet location took out so many tables that you only had the perimeter tables.. with a massive building to work with. They continued to serve everything in concession stand nacho trays and styrofoam boxes until like 2022.
The rest of BR had been back to normal for a year+, and Pluckers was still giving you salads to shake up in a box and utensils in a plastic bag like it was a takeout order.
Went once and were seated for 20 minutes or so before we got the feeling it was a bad idea that nobody spoke to us, so we left.
Nicholson was less hood, but you'd go and every table would be dirty in the bar because they were allowed to just walk past them all day.
Final straw for us was getting takeout, and the plastic bag was filled with a solid quarter inch of sauce that leaked out of the boxes. And this was my mozzarella stick:

Got horrible food poisoning from the bluebonnet location a decade ago and never went back. Won’t miss it.

Maybe someone has insider info, but reading between the lines it sounds like Pluckers wanted out of the franchise game and forced out the franchisee with required upgrades. So maybe Big Pluckers re-opens on their own out here? Say what you will about the service, but I’m sad to see these wings go.

Nicholson location was always the GOAT when I was in college, especially trivia nights. Went to the bluebonnet location a couple times but it was always a horrible experience.
Had a pluckers card too

I had friends who worked there back in the day and always heard this was the case. They bought out all the TX franchises years ago and expanded after. Funny enough all my TX friends dislike it now, but it always seems to be crowded in the locations i go to there. I highly doubt we see it back in LA any time soon sadly

Seems like there is a lack of good Buffalo wing joints in New Orleans and Baton Rouge.
In New Orleans you have your chains like hooters and bww, places with good wings like Fat Harry’s and Cooter Browns but aren’t necessarily ‘wing joints’, the Vietnamese wing places, and the takeout places like bayou hot wings.
Wish there was a good non-chain where I can go with the guys after golf and have a cold beer and eat a whole bunch of wings with a good variety of sauces and watch a game. Can’t think of somewhere in either city that checks all those boxes.

Unfortunately Bayou Hot Wings' location is not setup for dining in
If they had a bigger place with TVs, etc, that would be it

at that time there weren't nearly as many dining options around campus especially late...hitting up Pluckers leaving tiger land or all you can eat wing night were money

No inside info but it sounds like corporate pulled those franchises. It's common for franchise agreements to require facility upgrades for various reasons. Franchisees are also obligated to maintain a standard both in brand and quality.

The closest to me is also a post covid joke compared to before. Not cleaned well, furniture is ragged, service & food suck.

Ivar's and TJ Ribs have good wings
The wings at Walk-On's are pretty solid. That's usually where I go if I want to have a few beers and bullshite with people about a random college football/NBA playoff game.
