Nashville is a city our family has never visited. Thinking about short trip for NYE. Would be added bonus if LSU got sent to Music City Bowl, but anyway. 18 yr old and 16 year old. Will they have anything to do?

Are most of the music bars considered "restaurants" and my family can grab a table and listen to music? Obviously we aren't bar hopping, but I want them to experience some of it if we can.

Any other recs of things as must see or to do while there?

Recs for good eats and places to stay?

NYE in Nashville seems pretty wild. Nashville has turned into a combo of Las Vegas and Bourbon Street. That’s on a normal day.

That being said there are family friendly venues (Acme Feed and Seed comes to mind) but it depends on what you want your kids experiencing in between. Your kids will probably think it’s hilarious.

I wouldn't go unless LSU were in town. It's going to be packed everywhere.

If you go in the daytime, before 6, it's fine. I don't think younger kids (elementary) would enjoy it much, but the bars at pretty much restaurants with bands during the day. It's a lot more tame than some of the stuff you see on Bourbon or The Strip. However, the later in the day, the worse the crowd is. I think they kick kids out of most of the bars at 6-7 PM.

NYE is another animal entirely. I would not be out there with teens and it will be ridiculously crowded.

The Grand Ole Opry is a short drive from the downtown/Broadway area, but it's worth getting tickets. Multiple acts every night, with each doing about three songs, so it has plenty of variety. The sound quality is excellent. I went as a kid and enjoyed it even though I was into rock and "hated" country at the time. Went back recently for two shows and loved it all.

Go early, and visit the giant Opry Mills mall. They share a parking lot. Y'all can shop, and the kids can hit the giant Dave & Busters that is on the end right by the Opry. Walk out and you are looking at the Opry entrance.

If anyone is playing at The Ryman (right off Broadway), that is also worth the $. It's one of those venues you need to experience.

There is a lot to do in the general area, should be able to find something they are interested in. The cold does limit the outdoor activities. Opryland Hotel has some neat stuff in it around Christmas time including an indoor waterpark, usually an ice exhibit, and other stuff.

Nashville is a very diet version of those cities with a serious drop in the caliber of food. It's extremely tamer than those two. Tennessean Baptist brains wouldn't be able to handle what is allowed in those two places.

I feel like I need to clarify. The family won't be trying to ring the NY in anywhere but the hotel room.

Just wanting to go check out Nashville and those dates seem to work out.

I wasn’t even thinking food. I’m talking about bachelor and bachelorette parties with girls waving fake penis around. LOL.

It’s going to be packed. I wouldn’t recommend going with teenagers during that timeframe, but you can find stuff to do if you are dead set on it.

I went the year LSU played ND in the Music City Bowl and it was cold as a witches tit too. Like in the 20s high cold

I know, Nashville is considerably tamer than those two cities for debauchery. The drop in food quality was in addition to the much safer and less risque nature of the town. It's in Tennessee which puts a damper on Nashville from having a lot of whats available in those other two places.
