Are bmx bikes popular with kids anymore?

It seems like around here all the kids have generic mongoose bikes sold at walmart. Not like the mongoose of the past. Is BMX biking more popular for kids in other areas? I remember when GT, Mongoose, Dyno, Redline, Diamondback, etc….. were the bikes we had. Are they just bikes of the past or are any of them still popular in other areas of the country?

When I got my Dyno, I thought I was the coolest kid on the block.
Kids in my neighborhood now ride mountain bikes/hybrids. They’re a gang of 10-14 year old white kids who wear their helmets and ride wheelies up and down the block.

Yeah it’s really a shame to see the bikes kids ride around here when you compare it to the bikes we had. I remember when I got a GT Vertigo, loved that bike.

Don't forget the Huffy Sigma for the kids who couldn't afford those bikes.
I blame the decline of kids' bmx racing on no Rad 2 being made.

I bought my 8 year old boy a custom redline bmx bike last Christmas. Red grips, red tires, white chain, white seat, baby blue frame. Bikes etc in bossier city built it. Prolly the best Xmas present my boy has.
Girls ride mountain bikes.

So they still make Redline? Cool, I saw that they also make GT but not sure the quality of them compared to back in the day.

Had the Haro Nyquist growing up.
were you really a kid until you jumped off a ramp with a bmx bike and crashed and injured yourself?
Also, it’s wild that basically these bikes seem to be the same prices as they were in the late 90s early 2000s. Would’ve thought for sure they had doubled in price, but I guess the demand just isn’t there with all these nerds wanting to tik tok and stay inside now a days.

I may be wrong, but I think the quality of those BMX bikes aren't what they used to be. Many of the brands that were only sold in specialty bike shops are in Wal-Mart now.

It’s illegal in all 50 states for children to play outside Now. If a child is under 13 and does step outside unaccompanied by a sibling 17 years or older or an adult, they must have life360 installed on the latest iphone/android and must be within a 25 yard radius of their home.

I just looked at GT’s website and damn, the prices are pretty expensive. The GT Performer 20 is 675.00. And they have mountain bikes that were several thousand. Insane. But I do wonder if the quality of that Performer is on par with the 80s and 90s bikes.

My folks used to get my bikes at the hardware store. Strange that they’d have a full bike shop in there, but that’s how it was.

No. They want mountain bikes or scooters.
They all have weak legs. Mine were like twisted steel by the time I got into a car.

I saw a Redline at a Wal Mart about a year ago.
I couldn’t believe it.
That would have been unheard of in the 90’s.

We have mountain bikes, easier for the hills in neighborhood and trails when we go camping.
Seeing kids on any type of bike is a good thing though, most around here ride hoverboards or other things with motors. It’s shocking how many 10+ year olds in our neighborhood can’t ride a bike.
