Serious question, should we tank and punt this season?

Shams said yesterday on the Mcafee show that Zion is out for a considerable amount of time. The silence around his injury, yet again, concerns me that he's going to be out for a long time, yet again, and I think the team knows that.

I think it's realistic to say that at best we are going to be 6-16 when we return from our end of the month road trip to Memphis/NY/ATL.

At that point we should start having Murray and CJ and Hawkins returning, but we'd need to go 40-20 to close the season out just to get a shot at the play in game. To put that in perspective, that's a 55 win team pace. That ain't happening, even if Zion were to return.

There's a good chance we are sitting at 7-21 or 8-20 by Christmas, and if that's the case the season is over.

So what are we playing for and what are we doing from here on out?
Are you keeping Zion going forward, b/c if so, then you might as well look to trade BI now and just tank, as I assume Zion isnt' playing again this season, or at least not anytime soon.
I know the coaches and the players want to win, and they aren't going to actively try to not win. But we can tank the roster by sitting Zion and trading BI and CJ, and that still leaves you with Murray/Trey/Herb/Zion/Hawkins to build around.

I also wouldn't want this regime to be in charge of this mini rebuild. Sure would be nice if we had an owner who even knew what a basketball was, b/c she is the ultimate decider in where we go from here, and she has no fricking idea what we should do b/c she has zero idea how to run a successful business much less a successful basketball team. We have a coach and a GM who more than likely need to win to keep their jobs, but we are in a position where winning this year isn't really the wisest thing to do anymore. We still have the players and assets to rebuild and be a legit playoff team next year, but I think that needs to happen with a new GM (Bob Myers) and coach (anyone but Willie). Unfortunately the injury excuse will play a major role here.

They aren't going to. They are going to try and fight for a playoff spot once most of the core roster minus Zion is back.

But they probably should tank

These guys will come back on restricted minutes. We still wont see Zion and Jose for a while. They can try but they’ll still lose games. I don’t think they’re running off 10 straight games when healthy.

That is about my timeline too. Pels can't have 20 losses before end-of-year. If they are at that point, you punt and get under the tax with trades. Griff and Coach Green should not be a part of those decisions.

Cover right now is injuries, but that is on them too. Who's bright idea was it to plan renovations at your training facility when training camps opened? Belmont was promoted as an acceptable alternative, but obviously training camp was for shite because the team was not prepared to enter the season.

but that team needs to be a 55 pace win team just to get into the play in game at 10th place. That's not even realistic for them to do.

It just seems like we are at a junction already in this early season where what's the point of winning more games. Obviously if you're tanking you want to be top 4, but to me you want to at worst be in the top 8 spots, as those are the spots that have a 25% or better chance at a top 4 pick.

You have to question how hard was training camp run or how hard are practices? Were they prepared to handle this season? Or was it all just a fluke. I mean shite happens. Look at Grizz last year and even Warriors after they won the championship- had injury season from hell before rebounding to win another championship.

Unless 10th seed is out of reach, this organization isn't going to pivot and willingly tank.

We’re 4 games back. I think once we get to 10 games back- you gotta call it. Even Griffin will acknowledge this.

Doubt it. Even in Greens rookie year, they started 4-16 and didn't tank. I just don't see it.

TM3 - injury soft tissue
Jose - injury soft tissue
DJM - fractured hand (awkward play)
Herb - rotator cuff (awkward play)
CJ - abductor strain (old)
Hawk - back spasm
Zion - injury soft tissue

This is Pels list, all occurring within a month from training camp. Training camp was like Major League .... put a outboard motor in the tub for whirlpool action.

Yeah but we were always close to ten seed then mainly because west was weaker at the bottom. They will eventually tank it just depends on when.

Real question is how far are we from ten seed when its trade deadline? That will help determine how active will we be? Will they sell? Will they try to add to get that ten seed? What happens with BI, CJ and even Zion?

well we aren't squeking into the play in, much less the playoffs with a 36-46 record like we did that year. Last two years you needed to be over .500 to make the play in, and we arne't getting near a .500 record if we are 8-20 by christmas.

You hope that you get two top 4 picks in this amazing draft to rebuild around:

Missi
Trey
Hawk
Herb
DJM

and one out of the three of BI/Zion/CJ

Ingram is still a very good player that you can build around. If you trade both of them, you are going full hard rebuild which means you're likely saying goodbye to those guys plus CJ plus DJ plus Herb, and possibly Trey.
