Just got out of watching it. It was the mystery movie at our theater tonight. Excellent movie. Not quite as good as the 1st but still a great movie. Lots of call backs to the original. A few scenes had you shaking your head. I thought it might parallel the 1st(and it did some) but it I really like the direction it went.

I probably don't plan on seeing this in the theater so spoil this....how did Lucius not know that he was the heir to the throne and how did Lucilla not recognize her son?

In Madrid right now and it’s already out over here. Actually thought about seeing it because I’m that pumped for it. I’ll wait till I home this weekend though. Planning on rewatching the 1st one on the plane its been years since I’ve seen it

There's already a pretty good cam version out there for it.

Thought it was over the top silly for most of the fighting and felt like it tried way to hard to make Lucius like Maximus despite not having any where near the same motivation that Maximus did. The emperors were laughably bad.
I expected better, well let me rephrase that, I hoped it would be better.

Seems like it was more about Denzel’s character than the gladiator. At least until the end. I don’t think it was a very good role for him. He did fine with it though. It was just too much.

I don't know why but the casting from the previews makes it feel like a b movie. The emperor looks like a gay methhead, denz meh, the main guy nothing special. Hopefully the story is good but I'm not that excited about a movie i feel like i should be

I think making Maximum Lucius dad was stupid. It even took away from Maximus. He never acknowledge or wanted to live for his surviving son, instead he constantly lament over his other wife and dead son. Like really?

I thought the story was rather terrible in how they tried to give Lucius a reason to be so angry and vengeful, and I don't know what the motivation was for the crowd to turn so violent against Rome.

The actor that played Lucius I thought was the only good part of the movie. As I said, the twin emperors were over the top dumb and I just didn't really care for Denzel's character.
They didn't really do a good job at all in showing why anything was happening, it just did.

The movie was just too over the top for me to really enjoy it. The characters, the storylines, and the fight scenes just seemed over done. It felt like if 300 was trying to be Gladiator.

Maybe I'll enjoy it more upon second viewing, which isn't uncommon for me, but I almost don't even care to rewatch it.

The twin emperors were real and they hated each other. Caracalla killed Geta. So they were sort of like the emperors in the movie but obviously the movie will take liberties since it’s not historical nonfiction.

That's all fine and dandy, but they were written and acted terribly in this movie.

Like sharks in the coliseum?

Surprised there were not laser beams attached to their heads too.

Sharks
Some kind of chimp dog alien
Riding rhinos
A rhino roast as if it was a whole pig roast.

The tiger scene in the original didn’t feel out of place or ridiculous like these scenes did.

This is an abomination of a movie. It sucks at every level. I know going in it was going to be bad, but it's much much worse than I can ever anticipate. It's SyFy channel bad. And honestly it makes me spitting mad how much of a bad product this is in every aspect of the film. I need a beer now

The Roman soldiers did, he didn't himself.

Man i wanted this to be good and it was pretty rough

Some parts were good but some of the cgi was terrible and it felt kinda disjointed

Pascal is no Russell Crowe and he never had that onscreen presence that was so captivating

The complaints I've seen say that it's basically a remake. I'm not interested in that

I can’t believe they couldn’t get better than Paul Mescal.

I didn’t think it was that bad. They definitely went over the top with the CGI animals and took extreme liberties with what the Romans actually did in the Colosseum, but I wasn’t really expecting a captivating follow-up to a movie that didn’t leave much room for a sequel.

There was enough for a decent story, but the execution was just off. The Year of the Five Emperors was an actual historical moment that would’ve been a great setting here.

Also I thought it was hard to really care for Lucius because his motivations for hating Rome seemed pretty weak. I would’ve preferred Acacius to be the main protagonist. Denzel was fine.

I’m telling my friends not to expect anything on the level of the original. Basically just go into it to enjoy the nostalgia of going back to Rome.

I thought it was pretty good as well. We knew Lucious was the son of Maximus in the first movie so it wasn't some kind of twist in GII. The mutant baboons and turning the coliseum unto a giant pool with sharks was ridiculous.

I kinda liked the crazy emperors. Rome had it's share and it was implied in the movie that Caracalla was going mad from syphilis. The actor that played Emperor Geta also played metal head Eddie in Stranger Things.

I'm eternally grateful that Scott left Denzel's gay kiss on the cutting room floor. Overall, I'd give it 6.5/10
