Not depression, more just a sense of Ground Hog day every time the alarm goes off in the morning?

Is this just being an adult or are there any tips for breaking out of a rut that have worked for you?

I don't sleep well, probably a big factor. But that's another topic all together.

Work out, find a creative outlet, hit the sauna, swim, ride a bike, jog, walk, get out in nature, plan your weekends, read a good book, it takes planning. Do you have a spouse?

Try to bring something new into your life regularly. Doesn’t have to be anything big. Learn about something new. Take a drive through a place you haven’t been before. Check out a band you’ve never listened to. Try a new physical challenge or try to set a new personal best in your workout routine.

A super easy way is to go to Wikipedia and hit “random” and it will bring up a random page. Keep clicking it until you find one of interest.

tl;Dr: Be curious and open to new things.

Walk 4 miles in the woods every morning. Married 30 years. Happy healthy kids, every material need is met. There is literally no reason for it.

Travel is a great reset for us.

We work so we can travel. We’re constantly planning the next trip. Setting money aside. It becomes a goal to have the cash to take off and go. Then, when we finally go, we basically sleep as little as possible while we’re experiencing a new place. We have to come home and sleep for a day just to catch up. Then, start all over again.

Make a change. It’s far easier said than done, but you know when it’s time. Life has a way of flying right by. So, there’s no sense in spending most of it dreading your day to day. It’ll make you older quicker. Several years ago, after a lifetime of being involved in collision repair, we sold our business. You couldn’t believe the weight that was gone off my shoulders. Now, I put in three days a week in a non related field. I wouldn’t go back to the grind for twice the pay.

ChatGPT:

Feeling like every day is the same can be incredibly frustrating and draining, and while some of it may be tied to the responsibilities of adulthood, it doesn’t have to feel this way forever. Here are some ideas to help shake things up and break out of that rut:

Reignite Your Sense of Purpose

1. Set small, exciting goals: Find something to look forward to—a hobby, a short-term project, or a new skill to learn. It could be as simple as cooking a new dish or starting a small DIY project.
2. Reflect on what energizes you: Revisit activities or interests that used to bring you joy. Sometimes reconnecting with your passions can reignite enthusiasm for life.

Change Your Routine

1. Tweak your morning ritual: Even a small shift, like taking 10 minutes to stretch, meditate, or journal, can set a different tone for the day.
2. Add novelty: Take a different route to work, rearrange your workspace, or try something you’ve never done before (a new class, meeting new people, etc.).

Prioritize Sleep

While you mentioned sleep as a separate issue, improving it could greatly impact how you feel overall. Consider setting a wind-down routine or seeking professional advice if insomnia persists.

Move Your Body

Exercise can work wonders for breaking up monotony. Even a short daily walk outdoors can boost your mood and reset your mind.

Seek Connection

1. Talk to someone about this feeling: Sharing your thoughts with a trusted friend, partner, or therapist can help you feel less isolated.
2. Engage socially: Doing something with others, even casually, can help create new and positive experiences.

Practice Gratitude

Try ending each day by writing down one thing that made you smile or feel accomplished, no matter how small. Over time, this can help shift your mindset.

Experiment and Reflect

Sometimes we’re stuck because we’re not sure what we want to change. Experiment with different routines, hobbies, or even micro-adventures, then reflect on how they made you feel.

Would you like help brainstorming specific changes or ideas tailored to your daily routine?

I do man. Every day feels exactly the same. Even though I workout all the time and have hobbies, it’s just the same primary things with family life.

Gonna try a different therapist next, see if that helps

Wait until your kids all grow up and leave home. You will feel like a zombie, just going through life without a brain. You will ask yourself at least once a day, “Is this all there is?”

And you’ll never have an answer.

This thread will be filled with great advice for how to live with the burnout, but unless you wake up feeling like what you do matters AND that you’re appreciated/valued because of it, you’re going to stay burnt out. Only way to truly fix it is to change those circumstances.

Start making a gratitude list every morning, it will help.

Instead of walking in the woods, switch up and try a different workout. Maybe take up cycling and throw yourself into that as a hobby.

Find a new interest with you wife and go all in.

Someone mentioned “gratitude”. Be grateful for what you have and your abilities.

Praying in the morning before I get out of bed and on my knees when I get out of bed works for me. Starts the day off right.

Read Babbit by Sinclair Lewis.

Burnout used to be called other things, even enlightenment. There’s actually every reason for it. From a strictly physiological perspective your body is in mortal combat with the poisons sold to you as food and big pharma. If you’re a Gen X woman you’re a science experiment for international business interests. You can’t find 100 random women in Baton Rouge who aren’t completely or partially bald.

Burnout is just whatever humanity that you possess rebelling against the death cult of Modern Neoliberal Feminism.

Yes.

I love my job, but I've been burned out by it for about a year and a half. It's starting to get to the point where I'm having problems waking up, and there's dread to logging in.
