All they had to do was read the posts on the OT to find out who and the reasons.

Not enough midnight basketball and poetry slams

Far less phony fricks where I moved to. Not having to pretend 247 is a bonus.

Because my house had 8 feet of water in it?

I’m originally from Texas and my wife got a better paying job. Wasn’t hard to convince me because it cut my drive to my hunting property from 9 hrs to 4.5 hrs.

Too many STDs and potholes.

This will be good but I’ll bite:
1. Public services. Schools, parks and roads. Most areas it’s not even in question that public schools aren’t where you want your kids. Parks are lacking. The ones that do exist are outdated and poorly maintained. Roads is the same story. The quality isn’t good and there’s litter all over the roadside.
2. Economic opportunities. It’s no secret that there is a major lack of opportunity in Louisiana unless you’re from a well connected family or have a network. Even if you’re connected, there’s only so many decent jobs to go around. You’re unlikely to get first dibs.
3. Insurance cost is through the roof. Seems to only be getting worse and it’s running off the middle class. This depopulation issue isn’t an upper class or lower class issue. It’s killing the middle class. Anyone who can’t afford private school and wants their children to have good opportunities just leaves. Most end up in Texas. Many others in Georgia.
I think about this all the time. I know many others do as well. We love Louisiana but it doesn’t always love you back. You can’t put a dollar figure on the culture and vibe that you get in South Louisiana. Many of us would take a lower paying job if the insurance and public schools were tolerable. They aren’t even remotely reasonable.
I’m not fully closing the door on Louisiana personally though. There’s something to be said of the way it hits you when you’re there. Nothing like it in the country. It’s just hard to explain unless you’ve lived it.
I have always said the best thing about Louisiana is the people and the worst thing about Louisiana is the people.

Had to move to a state that cares enlightened to have their live mascots on the field.

I am retiring next april and I could leave if I wanted to (family is all out of state now) but I’m not going to for one primary reason…cost of living is still comparatively low. Well two reasons, I can’t stand cold weather and it’s warm here

Yes it certainly is unless you live in the LC, Lafayette, BR, Northshore, Nola regions.
COL in Deridder is next to nothing.

That sounds more like metropolitan Texas. Especially Dallas and Houston

Didn't they say it was because of the statues? The best and brightest should be back any day now.

Overly class conscious and superficial, and most are at best two generations removed from being dirt farmers.
I find "southern hospitality" is forced and quite fake.

I discovered that I liked 4 seasons with less humidity not just one big hot and humid then cold and humid year.
