Would you send your kid to a high school that is 30 minutes from your house? Where they know no one, and you don't know anyone, but the school is infinitely better. My kid will probably do fine at either school, but one would push her more. I will refrain from using the schools in question, just wondering if anyone has done something similar.

The local hs, would be all the kids she has gone to school with her whole life, as a note.

I do that now. I live in Zachary and my daughter goes to LSU Lab. Divorce agreement thing, but it's been great for her.

depending on where you live, 30 minutes is nothing, in Los Angeles that could be five blocks

If they can reach the end goal then let them continue with their friends. I started at a new school 30 minutes away as a freshman and thrived in the new environment but I was failing in the old one

My ex sends our kids to a HS a good 40-45 minutes from her house. I think it’s stupid, but short of a court battle I can’t do much.

Once I get moved my house will be within 15 minutes to the school.

We send our son to a school by my wife's work because it's better than the one by our house. It's about 45 minutes away and have no issues with it because he's getting a better education. The only downside is when he makes friends in the sports leagues by our house and doesn't go to school with them.

A family member of mine in mandeville sent both his kids to Jesuit. I thought it was a little much with St. Paul’s being right there, but he said accounting for northshore traffic going north into Covington, it only took a few minutes longer on average to get to Jesuit.

Not if the school in our area is good and friends are there.

Plenty of rural country folks have kids that live 30 minutes away from school. that probably 45-60 minutes by bus.

My boy's school has been 30 minutes away for 11 years. And, that's only going through 2 stoplights.

Don't base your decisions on her friend group. A year after graduation she won't be in contact with most of them. Five years after graduation she probably won't be in contact with any of them.

This is one of the reasons my parents sent me and my siblings to private school in the early 1980's when bussing began as an attempt to desegregate schools.
There was no way they were letting us ride a bus for over an hour to go to Glen Oaks High School.
Belaire High School was less than a mile from our house.

So are you saying this person drove back and forth to N.O. twice a day for the kids to go to Jesuit??? Once in the a.m. to drop them off and again in the p.m. to pick them up.......If so, that is ludicrous at best.

Unless you are an employee of that district, or its a private school, it shouldn't even be a question

My wife and I are doing it. We live in Lafayette, and our kids both go to school in New Iberia. BUT, we started both of them in New Iberia. So the kids they grew up with in school are kids they've known their whole life. So that makes the difference.
