Mostly limits of teal are the reports I’ve heard so far.

For what it’s worth we went hunt our lease yesterday afternoon.

Literally did not see a bird until about 45 minutes till sunset. From there we saw a few big groups of teal that showed no interest. Had some groups of greys/mallards (4-5 in each) work but they were skittish couldn’t get them to quite commit. Ended up with 2 mallards and a Blackjack

With better shooting we probably could have gotten 3-4 more (3 hunters). Was shocked to see that many big ducks especially with how warm it’s been. Zero geese were seen

Didn’t see any birds in Vermilion Parish this weekend. Heard maybe 4-5 rounds of shots which is not much at all where we are.

Johnson Bayou area of Cameron Parish. Three man limits Sat and Sun 90% grays. 9 this morning (Monday) between three hunters. Honestly didn't see many, they just flew right over us and came in. It is an open water flight blind.

As it has been for the last decade plus, I would wager that a lot of people will be disappointed in their 5k+/season rice field pits

You mean the one with the other $5k field pit less than 200 yards away on the same levy in the same rice field? That one?

In the old days, you use to lease the whole 640 acre section with one blind for $5k. Farmers got smart, now they lease 4 pits per 640 acre section for $20k!

Not sure where you are getting your information on Venice... After two youth hunts and three hunts to start the season Venice is not loaded at all. Even the typically popular places are even off from normal like Baptiste.

Not sure what to tell ya…buddies son guides down there and shot 3 man limits fri sat and sun

Saya he saw more ducks than in quite a few years, albeit less each day as boat after boat after boat ran them up and others took sky busting shots in the 100-125 yrd range

that's great for your buddy. I can tell you 90% of Venice didn't have birds like it should for opening weekend.

Of course if your buddy hunted Friday of last week he got an early jump on the rest the state

Rice fields are awful right now. Just a few teal and very, very few specks. Marsh has been pretty good for teal.2.

My dad and his buddies got 3 man limits of mostly greys in Holly Beach on Saturday and Sunday.
Birds were skittish and not finishing well.
The dog saved them from losing half their birds from cripples.
They ended up finding all of their cripples.

Yeah, he is just drumming up business. Private managed land in the area had some ducks. Other than that, there are virtually no ducks in Venice, especially south of Baptiste. Areas that used to have thousands this time of year, have a few dozen.
