Zachary’s Bolden went off on us .. hats off. Strong kid w quality play last night.
Tigers rebounded well.. not enough scorers… don’t shoot it well .losing ward huge bc of that.. . who’s scoring outside big 2?

Cam - best player on the court and will be many nights. IQ off the charts compared to others. Talented, smooth stroke, multi dimensional. Unselfish . I see Jrue Holiday.

Jalen - stronger, great footwork , nice player. Not an above the rim guy.

Dji - surprise starter. Grew on me. Hustle, boards, D, energy … lots to like. Problem is can’t shoot and undersized.

Fountain - offmesibe board machine

Sears - surprise starter - will be key. A few ill advised deep balls .. can he handle well enough?

Robert miller - started but played bench minutes. Never flashed. What does he do well??

Collins -
Blocked a couple which was nice to see. We desperately need some rim protection.

Givens - will play plenty. Another ball handler on a team wout many good ones. Had green light all night but was streaky. Need him to be better shooter.

Chest - no bueno .. 3 early mistakes w turnover and skillets. Benched second half

Mike Williams - never really flashed. Sears and givens ahead of him.

Vyctorious - not bad. Less time than others but did a few nice things.

. I hope this is not another one of those seasons (among many) where we show lots of potential but are constantly asking “what if we had so and so? (In this case Ward) Then we’d have been able to do so and so, beat so and so”, etc… it’d be very frustrating. Hate that we lost him. Best wishes to him… hope he’s able to recover quickly.

Why would sears being a starter surprise you? He was a 20 PPG scorer at UT Martin and we basically only have young guys between him and Cam. He’s going to be a big part of this year’s team.

And idk about Givens being a streaked shooter. 4 of 9 from 3 is pretty darn good, and his stroke looked clean and confident.

___
Alexa - play video of Jalen dunking on a kid after a perimeter drive from top of the key.

Sears was on a scooter a month ago with an ankle… surgery? Injury ? I don’t know. Coming off injury, undersized, i thought might be a little slow .. listen, I’m pulling for him…. Another scorer desperately needed so if this kid can handle the rock and put it in the hole then sign me up as a fan!

Guard heavy …. Cam, sears, Williams, CG3, all fine …

Need much more from Collins and Robert Miller …. We have to have bigs that can defend and alter shots … Collins showed a few signs last night but I’ve yet to see Miller do anything … he’ll get every chance to defend, board, and block

Fountain is not great, but boy i love that dudes offensive board motor. He will play plenty. Rebounds affect winning, period, and he shines in MM’s eyes because of it

Givens shot the ball well last night.
5-11 , 4-9 on threes.

Sears was always going to be a starter, we need a PG bad on this team outside of a freshman in Givens.

Reed is clearly the best player on this team. He has totally transformed this offseason and is a physical force down low now.

Carter is always going to have his struggles offensively, he made some wide open shots last night, but it wont always be like that for him. He's a known defensive first player but has always been inefficient offensively. ULM made it very easy on our offense last night. There was very little guarding on most of our 3s.

As far what did Robert Williams do well, he passed the ball very well which for a big like him is a nice compliment.

It was a GOOD start. Roster has the flexibility to go small/fast or big based on the opponent. You can see we want to push the ball and create shots on the perimeter or slip it inside to Reed and others.
Really like the combo of Carter, Sears & Reed.

Givens is gonna be really good. Can create space. Smooth.

Agree. Reed is one of my favorite players because I've seen him grow and I'm expecting him to make a big jump soon.

I have hope that this team will be able to shoot more threes after the exhibition game. I know they were playing Loyola, but they were still making threes under defensive pressure.

I'm not sure where this team is offensively. Against Loyola they passed well around the perimeter and stretched the defense to make some openings. I didn't see that as much last night.

I like Mike Williams, but the additions of Sears/Givens/Bailey/Caarter provide competition that he's struggling to keep up with. Vyctorious Miller has had some decent play but seems to be more of a three point shooter that McMahon will use to give the others a break.

Corey Chest has been a disappointment so far. You can see the athleticism and I'm rooting for him, but there may be some immaturity there holding him back. He's young, so hopefully he'll stick around enough for coaching to take effect.

Fountain is deserving of respect. He's got a great work ethic and is a good player. There's a lot of heart there.

I am very optimistic about the team based off the exhibition and last nights performance.

The team is long, physical and athletic. We have 3 guys who can get 20 in any given night in Sears, Carter, and Reed a long with Mikey Williams and Givens who can get us points off the bench.

We ran some good sets to get open 3s last night they just unfortunately didn’t fall which we all know the 3 ball in college is very streaky.

Might have some problems with guarding elite bigs due to Miller and Collins lack of strength, but it can be made up for in throwing length at teams.

Going to be some growing pains with both Millers as they need to learn them game and add strength but both have some real talent and athleticism to build on.

I see this years team as a tournament team. And with Matt MacMahon wearing a suit last night for the first time he does too. Strictly business

Was Fountain serving some sort of suspension? He didn’t see the floor until the 3 minute mark of the first half.

Fountain has been nursing an injury which is why you didnt see him play in the exhibition last week. He will play plenty this year, he's a good rebounder. His lack of true size though always hurts him when we play more physical bigs though.

I realize that OP didn't say anything ground breaking but what did he say that was out of pocket? I think based on a single game of action, his takes are reasonable.
