Took the wife on a creek trip in North Alabama for some smallmouth. She whacked em pretty good catching (4) over 3 lbs. Best smallmouth trip I've ever had. Figured I'd post a couple of pics since yall probably don't get to see smallmouth any more than I do.

Pretty 2 lber:

We just got back from Jasper Ark fishing the buffalo. Fished on and off for four days. Caught ~ 20 Kentucky's....Biggest was about 2lbs.

Nice catch.

My son and I went fishing with Roger Stegall up at Pickwick back when he was on Fall Break. A cold front moved in the night before we fished so we had to work really hard all day just to hook a few largemouth. Long day in the boat for a 9 year old only catching a couple fish but he did well. Saw lots of eagles and he enjoyed that. If you're ever looking to go on a guided smallmouth trip on the Tennessee River Roger is the guy to call. He's been guiding up there for decades.

I have 2 very good friends that are very good friends with Roger. I've met him before but can't say I know him.

But they fish with him a lot. He's the best on the lake. There is a creek that runs through Florence, AL (Cypress Creek) that is loaded with them. Also, fishing below Wilson Dam on the rocks in Florence, there is a bunch of smallmouth.

Go to Florence, Al. Fish either Cypress Creek or Shoal Creek. Both are loaded with smallmouth. Florence is a great college town with great restaurants, some cool hotels, and some great bars. My wife and I go twice a year. The fishing is truly incredible.

Yeah we have a lot of good smallmouth fishing up here. Wilson, Wheeler, and Pickwick are all loaded with them, plus the creeks mentioned. My PB is 6 lbs but have caught several over 4. When it's hot they will move shallow to feed until about 8:00 and you can load the boat fishing a weightless Fluke on points.

Any tips on places to bank fish or is it better to try to rent a canoe or something? I know the small details for trips like this can make or break a trip.

I would try to rent a canoe or something. That or planning on wade fishing. Not much public access here.

Spring Creek that runs through the southern part of Rapides Parish has small mouth (red eye) bass....or did when I was a kid trying to snag a few.
