Big Island resort recommendation

Wife wants to go to the Big Island for Spring Break, wife, myself and 12 yr old daughter. Will probably stay a full week there. Any recommendations on where to stay? We will probably stay just on the island except maybe taking a day trip to Pearl Harbor. We've been to Kauai and Maui but haven't been here. Thanks for any recommendations.

So you haven’t been to Oahu either? A day trip is not really easy from the big island.
The big island is a lot bigger of an island (obviously) and is a long drive to hit up other parts. Its not got a lot beaches so just expect that.
I really enjoyed the volcano NP

We stayed at the Fairmont Orchid.

The Hilton Waikoloa Village is where we have stayed twice.

Didn’t stay at a resort but the wife and I went earlier this year. We stayed at an Airbnb on a coffee farm in Captain Cook and rented a jeep. Did a few hikes and saw some great beaches(Black sand). Big Island has a lot more of a local feel than I imagine other islands do, which is great if you’re into that. I highly recommend the poke and huli huli chicken.
Also, There are no private beaches on the big island, so you can go to the four seasons and have access to the beach their without being a guest.

We've stayed at the Hilton twice and it was fine. It originally opened as a Grand Hyatt. We're giving the Mauna Lani Auberge a try in February.

Look at the resorts on the Kohala Coast north of Kona. The Hilton Waikoloa Village would probably be the most fun for a 12 year old. They have dolphins and a cool lagoon to play in.

Curious why you’re wanting to go back?
We had a blast in Hawaii, but I felt like the eight days we were there were enough for me to get my fix.
I’d suggest looking in the Caribbean, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, etc first before going back to Hawaii
Nothing against Hawaii at all, there are just so many amazing places out there which offer a totally different new travel experience

^ If you haven’t done Big Island, you haven’t done Hawaii IMO.

I agree. It’s my favorite of all the islands, Kauai is second. There is so much to do. If your looking for resorts, definitely look a Kohala coast.
When it comes to doing Pearl, it’s not that bad. It’s a quick flight to Oahu and prices run about $120-140 depending on the day. Go early in the morning that way you can have the afternoon to explore Honolulu/ Waikiki beach.

Fairmont Orchid, Mauna Lani, Mauna Kea (think it is under renovation for a year), there's the big Hilton Waikoloa, but the beach at A Bay isn't the greatest. There are lots of nice condos in the area around Hilton Waikoloa- Kolea and Hali'i Kai are the nicest and will give you the best chance for Ocean views out of area condo complexes. There's also a Marriott resort in this area. I'd probably stay here over the Big Hilton if you want to be in a hotel Waikoloa Resort area and near the Kings Shops.
There is also a nice 4 seasons on the island if you're looking to spend $$$.
A lot of times the condos are the best bang for your buck.
ETA- you can plan your flights so that your layover will be on Oahu. Maybe stay a night there and do Pearl before catching your connecting flight to Big Island. We always fly out of DFW and our connecting flight options are usually Honolulu (Oahu), LAX, or Phoenix.

I would suggest flying into Honolulu, do PH in a day, then fly to the Big Island the next day for the rest of your week. Then fly home from Big Island. We rented a jeep for a week and did the loop of the Island staying in different AirBnB's every couple of nights. I can not recommend the Blue Hawaiian Helicopter tour enough, absolutely memory of a lifetime stuff.
