Unemployed Thread - Advice on Moving Forward

My team was a part of a round of layoffs last Friday. First time I've been unemployed since 2011. I had warning and have been applying for new jobs prior to being let go. Part of me has been looking forward to a break, but the other part of me is shitting bricks thinking about not working. I have a few projects/to dos to focus on while applying for new jobs, but that'll keep me occupied for only a few days.
What's the OT's advice on how to make the most of the time and not waste it? I don't think my pregnant wife and two toddlers will approve of me doing hookers and blow with an unemployment check. Basically I'm looking for thoughts on how others have kept their sanity and not wasted the days while in between jobs.

Waste a few days, you might never get the chance again.

You know the rules, and so do I.

Take a week off and start applying to jobs

Come up with a plan for what your goals are. Knock at least 1 thing off your list every day so you can say you've accomplished something whether that's one of your at home projects, related to finding a new job, or for your family. Stick to your plan/goals and realize everything happens for a reason. You'll be better off in the future than you were at a company willing to let you go at a moments notice

Read, and workout. Will help with the anxiety. Know it’s going to take time and try to enjoy the holidays because it will likely be Jan before hiring picks up.

I mostly used the time as kids time. I was laid off in May and finally started working again in August. It is amazing what you can do with the kids when you don't have to wait until the weekend.

If you interested in installing post-tension cables it's work for you out here... I got friends who if they work 5 days on the garbage truck make +1200$ a week... ain't the cleanest work but will help pay the bills

I lost my job in 2021.
1. Focus on getting yourself right. It’s ok to be off because this is a big deal.
2. Don’t settle when looking for a job, but know what you’re actually worth. The job market is tight so I’d say you don’t need to be looking for a 30% raise. That’s just my 0.02.
3. Have some fun. Not sure how old you are, but when was the last time you had some time to do whatever you or your family wants? Don’t feel shame for enjoying yourself.

Go on some dates with your wife

Men work. Nobody, least of all your wife, will be attracted to you when you are down.
Work. That’s the answer.
Work. That’s the answer.

Good luck. There are no jobs out there and if there are any jobs, it is certainly not going to hire you.
Prepare to get ghosted. Prepare to find out about ghost jobs. Prepare to do "free" work in the interview.
If your resume does not match the job posting 90%+, you will not get a response. AI has taken over HR.
Ask me how I know. 3200~ applications in a year, looking in multiple states, multiple interviews, no job.

This is an important part. Read the posting, taylor the resume as if AI will be the first hurdle, then submit it.
It was always good practice, but now it's critical.

Right now you might look at Amazon or UPS for holiday work.
Just to get past the election and end of year

Holy shite….you applied for 3,200 jobs in a single year? How would one even find that many jobs to apply for?

Because most online jobs listings are there so Indeed or whoever can get your info and sell it to someone else.

But a big tub of cocoa butter and spend these days slathering her up.
There’s also a big demand for pregnant OF content. You could even blur her face if you don’t mind making a bit less.
