Paying 10M for a guy to bring us a floor and ceiling that is a 9-3 reg season and a crap bowl game win? We should be a championship level program in all 3 major men’s sports. We are currently only at that level in 1.

Throw fat contracts at people and sit back and counts stacks. Sounds like a easy job.

Meh. Look at what he’s put together on defense. We do not have a talented defense and sometimes they’re the stars of the game the last 3 games.

BK didn’t throw those interceptions. Sloan’s playcalling and lack of defense prep for back up QB were to blame. I know BK promoted Sloan but after what he did with JD you needed that guy around. However, unless we lose Underwood I’m not sure it’s worth it at this point seeing how bad Nuss is.

Players still have to execute. BK can’t throw the ball for him. BK can’t run in a wide open lane for him.

Gets way too much credit than what he deserves. He also got A&M into the mess with Jimbo Fisher. Fortunately for them they are able to buy him out. Don't think LSU will have that luxury with Kelly.

His strategy seems to be "find an older coach in his 50s or 60s who has had some success in the past and overpay by 3x"

Yall need to give up on the 9.5M (not 10M) per year thing. That’s simply not a lot of money in the coaching world anymore.

Go look at the coaches who make $9-10M a year in the country and tell us who you’d want.

Being what the 5th highest paid coach isn’t a lot?

He makes a ton and his contract is all locked in, it is what it is to compete but Scott handing out candy to a washed Jimbo and now BK

Make you feel better if 10 wins in a reg season is our ceiling?

He’s one of the better ADs in the country. His job to is make elite hires and provide resources to win.

Go back and look at 2021 and tell me which coach would’ve been an upgrade on BK. Even that is hindsight.

He’s not perfect but LSU is not an easy AD job and he navigates it really well. I don’t know if there’s another out there who could step in and do a better job.

Just double checked, he’s 8th at 9.975M.

But go look at the four just ahead and the four just behind him. No one better, in fact, many objectively worse.

So what’s the alternative? Woodward going to the bargain bin or taking a gamble on a younger coach or a coach from a smaller school?

This board would have gone nuclear and everyone knows it.

Here are a few comparable coaching salaries for 2024:

Lincoln Riley - $11 million (5-3)
Steve Sarkisian - $10.3 million (7-1)
Kalen Deboer - $10 million (6-2)
Mike Norvell - $9.8 million (1-7 )
Ryan Day - $9.5 Million (7-1)
Lane Kiffin - $9 Million (6-2)
Josh Heupel - $9 Million (6-1)
Mark Stoops - $9 Million (3-5)
James Franklin - $8.5 Million (7-0)
Brent Venables - $8.2 Million (4-4)
Mario Cristobal - $8 Million (7-0)

I left off Kirby and Dabo because they have titles. I’m not sure what the complaint is to be honest. Kelly isn’t crazy overpaid compared to most of this list.

Elite coaches don’t go up 10 points in the first half and then get outscored in the second half by a margin of 31-6. Kelly is trash against AP opponents in road games and his record speaks for itself.

You can’t clamor about wanting to have a top tier coach and complain about fat bloated contracts.

Any top tier coach is going to have that luxury, you can’t compete with other school wanting their services otherwise.

I agree that it’s absurd that the football world has gotten to this point, but it doesn’t change if you want to be relevant you’ve got to pay to play.

Some of you need perspective. Let’s play out a firing scenario - who exactly are you hiring right now?

Aside from Kirby and Dabo, no active coaches have won a title. It took Kirby 6 years to win a championship and he didn’t have to fill half a damn roster in his first season. We’re finally moving out of that sinkhole after this year.

We won 11 games in O’s final two seasons. BK turned that into two ten win season with us likely hitting that make for a third year in a row. We needed a program stabilizer and we have it. Now it’s time to make the jump into the elite category.

Yall act like everyone needs to be Saban and it’s ridiculous. The ten year contract shows they play on sticking with BK for the long haul and allow him to build the program. We could also be Florida who’s been cycling coaches since Urban left and look at what it’s gotten them.

Name me all the schools that have this? ??

To save you time the schools to win national titles in football alone in the last ten years are….

Michigan - last basketball title 2000, baseball 1962

Georgia - basketball never, baseball 1990

Alabama - never won the final four, never won a college World Series either

Clemson - no basketball titles or baseball

Ohio State - final four 1960, college World Series 1966

LSU - no basketball titles, Baseball 2023

So as of recently LSU has had the most success recently in the top 3 sports. But no school is in the hunt in all three sports every year. You are looking for a unicorn.
