Question for the plant baws and smells of various "unscheduled" releases

A long time ago I was auditing a plant in Sulpher LA and I THINK they were making some component for Tylenol. Don't really remember.
But I do remember the plant safety guy meeting with us when we first got there and one of the safety points he said was if you smell the scent of syrup start running for the parking lot but it's likely too late for you by then anyway.
Any plant baws know what he was talking about?

One of the first time I was in a plant and younger, I asked a baw what that smoke was always coming out of one of the towers (I’m sure now it was just steam), and he told me if I ever look up there and don’t see anything coming out to spread my legs, bend over, and kiss my arse goodbye.
That’s all I got.
That’s all I got.

That smells like fresh cut grass/hay. I got in it and had a snotball the size of a baseball hanging out my nose by the time I got to the infirmary.

In low concentrations it is sotolon.

Benzene is said to have a sweet, syrupy smell and is very harmful in small concentrations. Could have been that

Chlorine will frick with your day I'll tell you that much.
Having to wade into that light green cloud (in SCBA obviously) to fix a leak is a surreal experience

I worked in a plant that made hydrogen cyanide. Had an apricot smell. One of those if you smell it, it’s too late thing.

Phosgene is reported to smell like wet hay. I cannot confirm

Hitler used Zyklon B. Not phosgene

Phosgene was one of the gases used in the trenches of WW1, along with chlorine and mustard gas

Yup because it's heavier than air, stays close to the ground and permeates the trenches.

I almost passed out once from the fumes in the closet storing the pool chemicals at a pool I worked at. Strong stuff
