I submit the Outback in San Angelo, Texas.

They have some off menu item, including the best thug there:

Steak Bites, with fresh jalapeños, onions, and mushrooms. They cube up some steaks, shish-kabob size, and hit them on the flat top with shroom, onions, and jalapeños (not pickled). Miss that.

Sorry. No Ward's in Meridian. However, their chili burger is a sloppy/messy bit of heaven on a plate. Or the few I have enjoyed are. Their fries with chili were first rate, too.

I fully agree with everyone else that Weidmann's is by far the best place to eat in Meridian. MCC is pretty good too, but members only.

I have had maybe a hundred good business dinners at Outback Meridian. The CVS Pharmacy QC folks that visited us loved it for whatever reason.

I liked Rustler's but never think about it. They went out of business for a while, and I think they are back now. Pricey but good.

For almost twelve years, the best food in Meridian was at our house. Hosted lots of business dinners at our place because it was the best way to impress folks.

Gus McRae - The beef pieces plate was my wife's favorite at the Meridian OutBack. What she always ordered. I assume they still have it.

I'm hearing rumblings that Faraway Places has reopened. Technically in Marion, but it counts.

If you're driving up on I-59, Long's Fish Camp in Enterprise was always excellent in the past.

Hey, what's the story on that General Store place east of Meridian on I-20 toward the Alabama state line?

Going to need some help. I may come out of this talking about the wrong thing, If you are referring to the big warehouse on the north side of I-20. He was in the middle of a big business expansion (Smaller version of Lowe's or Home Depot type of business) just before Covid hit. The building was going to be his distribution warehouse. I think covid shortages killed his business and he lost the warehouse, maybe everything. The warehouse is now a shipping company terminal, I think.

Are we talking about the same location?

I had to go look it up.

Simmons-Wright

There's a sign for it on the Interstate. I've often wanted to stop, but whenever it might be a good time, it's usually driving through on a Sunday, when they aren't open.

What's the scoop on it? Worth a stop just to see? To eat? Or neither?

ETA, I guess I should have said OFF I-20, not on. But it's clearly pretty close. I actually didn't realize it was that close, in looking at a map.

Sorry about my other post, Simmons Wright is/was and old country store, owned by a family that lived across the road from the original building. The Father got old and the business went to his Son Gary and Gary's wife (Janice) who graduated from High School with my wife. They lived across from us in University Village at Miss State way back when. We used to play Rook with them. They are great folks and have turned most of the store operation over to their daughter and her husband now. (Boy I am getting old). The store is interesting ground floor and a stairwell leading up to a second story that is open to the first floor through a wide opening in the middle of the second story floor. (Poorly explained). The last I heard, the kids generation have opened a BBQ/burger/dinner place sort of behind and attached to the main store. The store was one of those places you could buy a wedge of red rind cheese cut off of a hoop with an old cheese cutter rig. It was what I would have called a, RC Cola and Moon Pie place. There aren't many of then around anymore.

The store sold, Groceries, Garden tools, Shoes and socks, 50 pound sacks of flour, shotgun shells, etc.. That kind of store.

No, I can picture this perfectly -- I think. Thanks for the explanation. What you describe is sort of what i expected, but I was also wondering about the food service.

I guess you haven't eaten there? I'm going to try and check it out either way.

Weidmanns appears to be the consensus thanks all. I’ve never stepped foot in meridian so I’m interested in checking it out a bit before we head off

I think they have a rooftop bar. I think it serves drinks and maybe pizza. Needs to be better, but I am not a cocktail guy. They do sell beer though, and wine too, I think.

Back in the day, Weidmann's had a Cabernet, labeled "Dog Bone" It was pretty good.
