My wife has a conference this week and I tagged along.
We are staying at the Renaissance on West Wacker.

I’ve never been to Chicago. I have complete free time until Sunday. What should I make it a point to do, see, drink and eat?

Since it'll be your first time, guessing you stick to areas visited most by tourists, including The Loop, River North, Gold Coast, and Mag Mile / Streeterville.

- Skydeck on the 103rd floor of the Willis Tower
- Architecture Boat Tour
- Art Institute
- Field Museum / Shedd Aquarium
- Navy Pier
- Grant and Millennium Parks
- Michigan Ave (Mag Mile)
- Riverwalk
- Lakeshore Trail (extends north-south)
- Cubs have a weekend homestand
- Restaurants: Bavette's, Ciccio Mio, Asador Bastian, Chicago Chop, Tzuco, Obélix, Purple Pig, Bazaar by Jose Andrès
- Cocktails: Bar Sotano, Dearly Beloved, Gilt Bar, Sparrow, Three Dots, The Milk Room, The Drifter, Arbella
- Rooftops: LondonHouse, IO Godfrey, BIG, Cerise
- Deep Dish: Labriola and Lou Malnati's (State/Rush location)
- Italian Beef: Mr. Beef (if you're into The Bear) or Portillo's

Always tell this board, lifeblood of Chicago are its neighborhoods. We have 77 community areas, including the four mentioned at the top of my post. There's a lot to see, eat, and drink, so let me know if you're willing to explore while your wife is at the conference. For example, Logan Square and West Loop are the best restaurant and cocktail bar neighborhoods in the city, while North Center and West Town have great routes for brewery hopping. Most weekend visitors never make it to three of these, but working through neighborhoods is how you see Chicago.

If the weather is nice I love walking along the Riverwalk and getting a drink at a stop or 4. Some very cool spots to have a drink along the way. Your wife will probably like that.

Get a City Pass: LINK

All of the attractions are top notch. The Museum of Science and Industry was probably our favorite from the most recent trip.

If you like architecture, the Frank Lloyd Wright walking tour in Oak Park is great.

What breweries do you like in Chicago, especially in the west town area?

On Tour and Midwest. You can also hit up District Brew Yards to try a few different breweries.

My favorite in the city are way up north where I live. Half Acre, Begyle, Dovetail.

Midwest Coast -> Goose Island (Fulton) -> Great Central -> On Tour -> District Brew Yards. If you wanted to go straight into West Loop, Guinness is a 20-25 walk from District Brew Yards.

I'm not the biggest fan of a couple District Brew Yards breweries... Burnt City sucks but were given new life by Brew Yards after closing shop awhile back. I am willing to go there and support Twisted Hippo, which lost their brewery to a fire a couple years back.

North Center brewery crawl would go Hop Butcher -> Dovetail -> Begyle -> Demo. Could walk or take short Lyft/Uber ride from there and run Spiteful -> Half Acre.

ETA: My favorite breweries are Hop Butcher, Maplewood, and Half Acre. You can add Goose Island (Fulton) if they put a cellar on draft or I want to order off their cellar bottle menu. If you add Chicagoland, Phase Three is run by Shaun Berns. Guy knows what he's doing with barrels. Brothership has been gaining quick steam, too, as one of the best breweries in Chicagoland. These two are a bit tougher to do without a car, and I doubt you'd want to go out to the suburbs if you're only visiting.

ETAx2: Logan Square is a great crawl for breweries, too, since you can hit Revolution's brewpub, Solemn Oath, Marz's community, Maplewood, Ravinia, Hopewell, Pilot Project (brewery incubator), and Middle Brow. Revolution's bigger taproom is in Avondale, which isn't very far.

My 11yo son that claims to not be scared of heights was very reluctant to step out there.
