If (God forbid) Perkins tore his ACL, does he heal up and go pro?

...or come back for a rehab season. Got to think his draft stock took a hit between these first few games and the injury Hopefully it's just a sprain and the question is moot.

The smart decision would be to return but I think he goes pro

Who is drafting him? Dude would go late coming off a knee ligament with his last two years of production. I understand he looks good physically, but I’m not buying it.

Not to be harsh. But just factual. Does it really matter? He’s been a non-factor more or less.

I mean, to me it does. Regardless of his production, the kid decided to wear the purple and gold. I appreciate that and hope he has a great nfl career

Totally agree and yet, look what happened to Maason Smith. Thoroughly average his whole LSU career and I think he went 2nd round.

You go pro. He may have slipped out of the first round based on his play so far this year. From the perspective of a big payday, he’s playing for a second NFL contract at this point - his first contract won’t be huge (he’s not a top 15 pick). Can’t risk another injury at college level.

Great point but also Baker is not House.

So a hypothetical based on a hypothetical?

I wish him the best, but we will not be worse without him.
Probably won’t be better, but with the way he’s played, it’s a wash weather he’s out there or not.
Probably best to heal up and get ready for the combine. A creative NFL DC will find a way to use him, if he’s really as good as people think.

You go pro. You don't want to come back and have the same thing happen. IF thst happens, you become a mid-round draft pick, losing millions.

He’s going pro. He won’t be a top 10 pick anymore but he will still go in the top 50. LSU can’t match that money.

He's not increasing his stock with his play so far this season... just a shadow of himself 2 years ago. Is it the scheme, is he out of position, what is the problem with his regression?
Posted on 9/22/24 at 11:13 am to Handsome Pete
I can’t imagine he declares if he tore his ACL but man I would hate that for him

He doesn’t have a position. This is not something never seen. It happens all the time. Good build and athletic, but you better be able to shed blocks or cover, and he can’t do either at an acceptable rate at this level
If you want some examples of why he has no stats, just off the top of my head, go watch first play from scrimmage vs So Car and the reverse yesterday. I know these are isolated plays that can happen to the best, but this happens far too often and almost without exception

He can go pro but right now his draft stock is taking a hit. He’d be better off to return.
To most it looks like his freshman year was a fluke and lightning in the bottle he has not lived up to that kind of production or disruption

Medical science has come light years since the 70s in treating these sorts of injuries.
Having said that, it is about as likely he never takes another meaningful snap than it is to have a legendary NFL career. What ends up happening is likely between those extremes.
Depends on the extent of the injury, potential for repair, individual variables that we do not know, yet, etc.
IF, it is the dreaded 3 letters, then we will have to wait for surgery and the prognosis after that. Might be November before we get a realistic outlook.
If it is just a bad strain, he could be playing in November. Just not enough information at this point. (I mean, reportedly he left on crutches and in a brace - the trainers and medical staff must strongly suspect a significant tear.)
