My health insurance is covered under the VA. Not at a 100% so once I'm done with tricare (few months) I'll need to get some health insurance for my wife/daughter. Wife doesn't work. I'm self employed. Our household income is about 500 to 700k.

Any recommendations?

No way this is a real question.

If you can figure out how to make 500-700k, health insurance should be real easy to figure out.

Maybe ask your insurance broker...

Haven't had to purchase insurance thanks to tricare

Also trying to see if I can game the system since my wife doesn't work

I have no idea if it is good, but check out USAA since you are former military.

Go through a broker- at that income level, you won't qualify for a decent marketplace plan. BCBSLA has some 'off market' plans that are a little more reasonably priced, but by no means cheap.

If your or your wife have higher medical expenses, you can form a shell partnership and elect for 'Group Benefits' so the one that needs better benefits can have a more expensive plan without costing the other members.
Ex: My wife/son were on medicines for a while that made it worthwhile for them to get a more expensive prescription co-pay plan, while me/daughter had a higher deductible and no co-pay because we didn't need the additional expense of the higher plan.

None of it is 'cheap' or 'reasonable', so just try and find the best deal- it's a business expense, so it gets written off at the end of the year.

Look into health cost sharing plans.

They're good for catastrophic events? That's mainly what I'm looking to hedge against. Any recommendations on good plans?

yes, they can cover everything. If you dont know of any, start with your church and see what they use.

Also I’ve heard of the cost sharing plans. I think they’ve coming a long way. My wife was talking to one of her patients about it because they use it. I’ll try to get the name and report back.

Christian Healthcare Ministries is one that I looked into several years ago, and for similar reasons as you (catastrophic health situations). It’s got a very good reputation and may be worth looking into if you qualify. My wife’s daughter (a married real estate broker with a child) carried herself with Samaritan Ministries, while the husband carried the son on his employer sponsored policy. There’s another one (or more) for Jewish people (and I guess other religions?), but I’m not familiar with their rules and stipulations.

I ended up just getting an HDHP Anthem policy, since the sharing plans don’t allow for HSA contributions.

Call a healthcare insurance agent and have them aggregate the best options and then present them to you.

Edit: I would be wary of healthcare sharing plans. Not to say they can't work for some people, but they can be predatory - even moreso than regular insurance.

That’s a lot of words to say you own a law firm or insurance agency. I’d guess law firm if your earnings vary by up to $200k a year.

Bring your kid to the va so she can develop a permanent aversion to the medical system. It’s a lot easier to lift weights and not eat anything out of a bag than it is to go to the doctor and get on the hamster wheel of tests and waiting for weeks to eventually get on medicine that doesn’t do anything besides have side effects
