LSU-South Carolina Historical Notes

LSU leads the series all time 19-2 with the 2 Carolina wins coming in 1930 and 1994. This 2024 matchup features a return trip to Tiger Stadium in 2025.
The biggest meeting between the two game in 2012 when #9 LSU knocked off #3 South Carolina in Tiger Stadium.
Paul Dietzel led LSU to their first national championship in 58 then returned to Tiger Stadium as the HC of South Carolina 1966.
The 2015 meeting was one of note. Steve Spurrier and The Gamecocks were scheduled to host LSU then unprecedented flooding caused the game to be moved to tiger stadium. In what would be Spurrier’s last game as a HC when he stepped down the following week.
There’s not a ton of history between the two programs but there’s some. LSU has dominated this series. It’s what was formerly an “East team” that due to scheduling we seldom got to see.
This is my main reason for wanting 9 SEC conference games. These two programs and fan bases need to see each other more often. It’s one of those few conference games that doesn’t even feel like a conference game due to the lack of history and lack of fan base interaction.
Be as it may, LSU is a head they want on their wall desperately. LSU is still viewed as a National Power and beating them would be big for that program. They want this win very bad.

You left out the first notable LSU / South Carolina piece of history:

1987 Gator Bowl vs USC-E was the most memorable.
Tommy Hodson and Wendell Davis went off.
Final was 31-13 or something very close to that. (Yeah, I was there)
1987. The Good Ole Days when Semjase was till a rabid LSU Fan and you wouldn't catch me dead missing a game in Old School Tiger Stadium where the noise was provided ONLY by LSU fans yelling very loud with their mouths and TGBFL.
Now, you wont catch me dead inside PIMger with all the fake artificial noise BS and the seats loaded down with Corporate Give-A-Ways, Wine&Cheesers, See&Be Seeners and the usual assortment of mindless drunks. (None of whom really GAS about the Football Program or the University)

The 1995 game at USC was the last tie in the SEC. I believe it was 20-20.

Paul Dietzel’s return to Tiger Stadium in 1966. That was the first game of the season.
I was 8 years old. My first LSU game was the next game against Miami. The Dietzel game was the only one I missed that year and I have been going ever since. I guess one of the adults commandeered my ticket for the big occasion.

I was at our last appearance at SC in 2008 we beat them by 10 or so I believe JJ was QB? Was interesting game scenario with the state fair going on right next door at same time.
Saints got drilled by Steve Smith and Car Panthers the next day in Charlotte ?? Geaux Tigers!

First memory I have of a football game.
5 year-old me thought “peeing on the wall” was wild (they had tiled wall/floor drain urinal trough, as opposed to the free-standing variety).

Imagine trying to virtue signal by pining for Mike Archer.
30-13 it was the Gator Bowl. Before USCe joined the SEC.
Says the guy denigrating the football program and Tiger Stadium.

Yep. Sheddrick Wilson played the 2nd half and caught the tying TD on virtually 1 leg.
It was a preview to Rohan beating Tennessee on 1 leg 5 years later.

If I remember correctly, the last time we played at South Carolina in 2008 one of the officials recorded a tackle for us in the red zone.
