Who has had retina re-attachment surgery?

Mine just happened suddenly. Large dark circle in vision of left eye. Doc said there was a tear in the retina that allowed fluid underneath causing the detachment.

No real pain. Just a crappy recovery. I was conscious during most of the procedure, which was really strange.

Wife (no pics) had one.a.few years back. Injected the oil first, no luck. Next was laser, no luck. Lastly the did whats called a buckle which was apparently the last option, which worked. Recovery was slow and brutal... head down in special foam pillow for quite awhile. Best of luck

I have had:

Retinal tear resulting in

Cataract surgeries, both eyes.
Retinal peel, one eye
Yag laser surgery, both eyes
Vitrectomy, both eyes.

All in a three year span. Vision is now 20/25 and continues to improve.

Only issue now is everything in my left eye (retinal peel) appears slightly larger than from using my right eye. Retinal specialist says it can take up to five years to balance out

I know someone who had it twice in a short period of time after a major frick-up from a Lasik procedure. He still has that oil in his eye after almost a year because of other medical issues that came up during that time. Lasik usually works out for the best, but not for this person.

I had it .. is your retina Mac off . ? The surgery was a piece of cake. The recovery sucked. … I had to order this chair to keep my head face down for two freaking weeks. Had to sleep face down , eat face down … watch tv face down with a mirror pointed at tv through a hole in that chair .
I could last about two hours in bed , two hours in chair … so constantly moving back and forth . By the second week I was so tired I didn’t know if my eyesight was worth it
It was brutal
Second surgery was to remove gas bubble about nine months later. My eye was dilated for the entire time. After I stopped with the drops it still took a month for my eye to go back to normal

Cataract surgery was next to get rid of cataract that oil bubble left behind . Vision in that eye is about 20/40 now
