Parents of school shooters being arrested

I just read the father of the school shooter in GA was arrested for involuntary manslaughter. The parents of the Michigan school shooter were both sentenced to 10-15 years in prison( LINK).
It seems like this could be a slippery slope and selectively being used. You certainly don't see the parents of other kids that commit crimes with guns being charged and where do you draw the line? What's the PB's take on this?

Why are we defending absolutely asinine behavior?

I will wait to hear all the facts before passing judgement, but if what we are seeing is true, the parents made a huge error. If they were visited from the FBI, which I know is hard to trust, that he was making these threats, the last thing I would do is put a gun in the hands of my son. But, I will reserve judgement because I am sure we do not know all the facts yet.

Aren't there laws about disclosing that you're buying a weapon for a minor?

Actually you do.
There was a case in New Orleans where someone allegedly gave her kid a gun and said "kill them all".
She beat the rap 10-2.

If a kids kills someone driving a car recklessly do we jail the parents?

This should be completely unconstitutional.

If a kid says “I’m thinking about driving drunk” and the parent says “Here’s the keys,” I hope they’re getting charged.

This might have something to do with it:
I think ol' Dad is culpable in these murders.

I’m all for civil action against parents but not a fan of criminal punishment unless there is probable intent they knew this would transpire. If that is the case like some reports are saying then they should be charged in some criminal element.

where do you draw the line?

If the kid threatened to drive the car up on the sidewalk in front of the school and run over his classmates, and was visited by law enforcement for that threat, then maybe so

This may be the case, but usually these shooters all show huge signs of mental illness. The dad was likely a dumbass to give him a gun for Christmas. Maybe the dad has mental illness too. He'll have his day in court though.

I am as 2A as it gets, but giving an AR15 to a minor that had already posted threats that prompted an FBI inquiry rises to the level of criminal cuplability.

Did they already go to trial?
Nevermind, I see this is another case..

Right. Pops is going to get his day in court with a White Stag dress shirt and his best funeral chinos.

Let’s bring it back into the realm of the realistic.
What about inner city parents who knows their kids are a member of a violent gang, has a weapon illegally, and they kill somebody?

Parents have an obligation. If their son is troubled - get him help. And make damn sure he doesn’t have easy access to a gun.
Hard to imagine a parent getting arrested if they can show they’ve done that.
