NEW ORLEANS — A Downtown brewpub is closed after nearly 20 years in the city, according to Nola.com.

Gordon Biersch quietly closed its doors in August.

The closure comes amid other closures of other Gordon Biersch brand locations in the nation, our partners reported.

The brewpub was located at 200 Poydras Street at the Fulton Street pedestrian mall. Caesars Casino operates the property.

Second best in my opinion only behind Houston’s.

Guy Fieri’s Chicken frick Shack coming soon.

I’ll always remember the days when Harrahs was a good place to gamble a bit and get some drinks, the Christmas decorations on Fulton and gingerbread house in the hotel lobby. Now you walk through the casino and it’s like a sterile hospital. No character no soul.

Had it for lunch at Caesar's in Vegas Saturday, pretty good, had the chopped salad. But, I've had a few better sandwiches at Shaq's Big Chicken at The Queen in BR with that good slaw.

Is it confirmed that Guy Fieri is opening something there?

From what I understand, a local company has leased the space, so not a national chain. I don't have other details than that

Edit: Apparently this info is incorrect and Caesars is bringing in a national chain

That place was okay.

I once dropped the girls off at Canal Place and went there to kill time with a few beers while they shopped.

Wife called me and asked me to get us a reservation somewhere on open table. Well, I tried but I got no hits on the app. I shut off wifi and tons of restaurants had available reservations.

Apparently, they blocked reservation apps while on their free wifi.

Nice try, but for some reason, I never went there again.

No wonder you hate on so many good restaurants. With a take like this it confirms what everyone thinks and says about you

Food may have not been the best but they sure had some good beers.

when it opened the beer options in New Orleans were Budweiser, Dixie and abita. There were simply zero craft beer options…none.

sounds to me like the closure is more about the parent company than it is about New Orleans and it’s been clear for a while that the casino wanted to operate that space (I don’t blame them)

From what I understand, some Venture Capitalists got involved and doing what they do, decided it was more profitable to decimate the brand.

Crescent City Brewpub has been around longer than them. It was always better, as well.

I didn't hate Gordon Biersch in its early years. It was all around horrible and depressing last time I tried to go. I can't remember if it was before or right after Covid, though.

Of course. I assumed they were referencing locally brewed type options.

The Bulldog and Cooter Browns both have had decent selections of varying craft beers for going on 30 years.
