Week 1 Passing Stats 2023 vs 2024

Daniel’s last year: 22/37 346 Yards 1 TD 1 Int
Nussmeier Last Night: 29/38 304 Yards 2 TD 1 Pick
Honestly last night reminded me of last year.
lots of short throw. Very little shots down field.
Jayden got going Week 2 and the rest is history
I am not saying Nussmeier Heisman, but his biggest problem was being too conservative, I think that will be an easy fix for him.

Daniels threw the ball down the field last year.
USC tested their guys 1 on 1 a few times and it paid off, and probably was one of the tipping factors.
We gave no trust to Nuss.

Not being able to run at least a few yards to pick up a first down is a big disadvantage.

We actually had a qualified OC last year.

USC played 2-high pretty much all night
The intermediate stuff was open all night and, for the most part, we took full advantage.
Until those few moments where Sloan and Kelly just "had" to run the ball and it killed drives.

Yeah, forcing downfield would have been into double or triple coverage (they were playing corners with their 2 CBs that could have turned around and got close to ball heaved downfield. It wasn’t Sloan. It wasn’t Nuss. USC just decided to take that away from us most of the night). And we couldn’t run the ball enough for the safeties to ever really have to come to down and help in run support.
Sloan made a lot of mistakes. But I don’t think not taking huge shots down the field was one after watching the tape. I did during the game, though for sure.

Can Nuss not scramble and run at all? Heck even Myles Brennan could make first downs with his feet if it came to that.

The ball to Lacy in the end zone on the first drive was money. Lacy has to get a foot down there. If he does, the whole game goes differently.

Depends on what intermediate is.
Ok passes between 10-20 yards down field Nuss was 4/8 for 68 yards, not counting the last play.
LSU completed 2 passes in the middle of the field all game, both to tight ends. LSU WRs caught 0 passes in between the numbers. There was space there all night that LSU did not take advantage of.

I mean he had to jump and the Cb pushed him out of bounds.
if he didn’t jump he doesn’t catch the ball.

A better comparison would be 2 years ago, but this is better than I thought.

Not his forte, and his arm is strong enough that if he can keep a play alive, he’s gonna want to keep his eyes downfield and try to find the open guy. Which is probably smart.
The thing that really hurts is some of those RPOs or zone reads were open for Nuss to keep it and pick up some yards. And I think he’s athletic enough to do it. But they’ve probably coached him not to do it, because there’s such a huge drop off between him and whoever’s #2. We can’t afford to let him get hurt.
BUT, I was watching some analyst today breaking down the film—I think Carter Bryant—and he said SC’s DC recognized this early and had his ends just crashing down on the the RBs because they knew they didn’t have to respect Nuss keeping it. That hurt our running game. Nuss is gonna have to use his legs moving forward no matter if it’s a risk. It’s an even bigger one for him to not be a threat at all.

Funny post , You guys were blasting Denbrock after the Florida state game with the same comments. Not throwing down the field. He sucked and he needed to be fired.
Then we go on to have the TOP OFFENSE IN THE NATION!
Stay in your lane. Sloan can coach if his hands aren't tied by Kelly.

I used to blame daniels for 22' and that first game in 23'...but now it has me rethinking things.
One thing Nuss was is a gunslinger and he loves to push it down the field with that cannon. He didn't do it at all Sunday night. I now believe the coaches have preached so much about not throwing picks that it had them both scared to take chances down the field vs throwing short safe passes.

I do believe Kelly was behind this. I am not sure about Sloan yet, but give him the benefit of the doubt. This looks like BK all over it.

You are also counting a couple of obvious throw aways, or either the rec ran the wrong way.
