We knew defensively we were going to have struggles going into this year so we tried to get the best defensive players to transfer here. They didn’t and we got the leftovers of what other programs didn’t want. This could be due to lack of NIL funds or whatever. Either way, there was no way the offense was going to be as good as when we had JD and the defense couldn’t be any worse than last year but still wouldn’t have the talent to compete with the best programs.

We knew all this and still hyped ourselves into believing we would have a 10 win season. Realistically we have a team that is up and coming, and could be really good with a ceiling of 9 wins, probably 8. We were close last night but need more games to get better.

This is what I think too, but I was hoping if we won this game we could possibly get some momentum. Now we basically have none. I’m thinking more of 8-4 than 9-3.

Lot of sky is falling mentality in here today.

The team played well enough to win and should have. Coaching let them down. We have a lot left to look forward to.

Gonna hurt if we go 9-3 with 2 conferences losses and miss out on the playoff cause of last night

That’s what hurts so much. We had our chances to win. This game was in their grasp. I still don’t know WTF happened with the play calling in the 2nd half, lol.

You expected something different? Yes, it’s frustrating to start the season this way again, but this board is over reactionary by definition.

USC will lose at least three games this year. We’re a mediocre football team with a mediocre coach

This was a very winnable game. It will cost us at the end of the season. You just know we will point back at this game and say it was a big missed opportunity.

This is what most people are mad about. We are probably losing to Ole Miss so we basically have to be perfect against AM, Bama, ect. It's probably not going to happen.

Losing to ole miss at home lol. Sure. They haven’t beaten us at home since 1980

Well that’s going to end eventually and this year will probably be the year unfortunately.

If Ole Miss and LSU played yesterday I’d bet money that Ole Miss would’ve beat them by 20 or more.

I assume you’re joking since they beat us in Tiger Stadium as recently as 2008.

You called out sky is falling mentality and then eloquently explained why the sky is falling. It was a winnable game with huge implications for the program & coaching let them down.

Starting 0-1 changes the tone of a season. Doing it 5 years straight changes the tone of a program.

There is a lot of talent in the SEC, so you like to think your staff can give you an edge when athleticism is more or less even. I’m not confident in BK on that front, at all.

What is the correct reaction to losing a 5th straight opener and looking extremely undisciplined and unprepared for the 3rd straight year under Kelly?

To me it's the realization that even though we had players make mistakes, it was the coaching that lost the game. How can you expect anything different when every first game has the coaches losing it for you? Change personnel and it's the same dumb ideas of taking the ball first and going for it instead of taking the first points. Almost every pressure game plays out with us being outcoached. And $10m should prevent that.

I thought we played above where I thought we would be on both sides. But play calling really hamstringed us trying to impose our will which was a joke.
Hard to find hope when the top is the problem.

We said the same about FSU last year. They went undefeated. Why don't we give it a few weeks before we decide LSU was bested in a cripple fight against USC. They might go 8-4, they might go 11-1 we don't know yet.

What we do know is LSU and USC were very similarly matched. What we also know is LSU held a Lincoln Riley offense to 20pts until the final seconds of the game. Another thing we know is that Lincoln Riley has averaged 40+ppg every year since being a head coach.

So here's the possibilities.

Both LSU and USC are vastly improved on defense and have good offenses.

Or

Both LSU and USC have terrible offenses that made their defenses look better.

Expectations were too high for what we were going to put on the field.

Some people don’t have the ability to rationally judge. Others simply choose to reject l anything less than a championship outlook.
