I’m not sure about the playoff system setup.. notre dame plays only 1 other ranked team and that’s USC. They will walk into playoffs.. I don’t like the 4 conference champs getting the top 4 top four seeds.. I say bring back some kind or computer bullshite to determine the top 12 teams.. that’s just my opinion

I agree but looking on the bright side would they qualify for the G5 auto bid?

The computers should have never left college football. Only way to be fair. Our politicians are bought and paid for but a committee on football isn’t?? Keep playoffs to 8 teams use computers it’s that easy. But there’s no money in common sense

Because it’s easier for them to get into the playoffs we all know they suck

Seems like you've thought this through. Maybe send an email with all the logistics to the committee.

No, it's likely they stay top 8 and host a playoff game, replacing the conference championship game they don't play.

This is correct.

The rankings were never the problem it was the limited field of 2.

Had they kept the computer system when the 4 team CFP started it would have been perfect.

Committee was a terrible idea and the 12 team expansion is just dumb. Half the field will be known preseason every year and those teams will coast.

ND is already in, total joke.

I don’t think usc will be ranked by the time they play

They will get destroyed by whoever they are matched with in the playoffs.

Were the computers actually the problem in 2003? I think most people thought that Oklahoma’s 28-point loss in the Big 12 championship game should have knocked them out.

Of course, the most egregious error with the BCS was 2011, which was definitely the pro-Gump ESPN-led jihad that resulted in the biggest travesty in competitive sport this side of Roy Jones Jr in the Seoul Olympics.

The committee screwed up by putting undeserving Ohio State (2014), Alabama (2017), Ohio State (2020) and Alabama (2023) in the 4-team playoff.

FWIW, I’m actually not against the 5 automatic bids as it actually creates some type of objective* criteria for getting in the playoffs.

*Edited to correct (as clear from context) I meant objective. Thank you for the correction poster.

no, because they aren’t in the G5.

They take an “At Large” spot when they get in.

Notre Dame can’t be seeded any higher than #5 per the CFP rules because they’re not in a conference and don’t have to play in a conference championship game.

They actually got something right for a change. I’m very surprised that Notre Dame wasn’t able to politic their way out of that.

No. They’re independent. The can’t have any of the conference champion bids.

Like the other poster said, the computer poll rankings weren’t the problem. It was the limited field of 2. If there had been a 6-team playoff or larger, then the computer polls would have worked fine every year from the first year of the BCS in 1998 to the present day in 2024.

*objective

You mean objective criteria. Conference championship automatic bids gives us an objective yes or no criteria of whether or not you won your conference.

Subjective criteria is the dumb bullshite that we need less of. The “eye test” is the best example of dumb subjective bullshite criteria that I can think of. Subjective criteria allow bias and error in human judgment to enter the picture.

Don’t sign their ticket just yet. Their offense and quarterback are terrible! We can only hope and pray they stumble but they will get destroyed if they do make the playoffs!

With the automatic qualification for conference champs you have good chance of simply not having the top 12 ranked teams.

Agree with what you said and add Notre Dame into that mix. The committee will put them in with a 500 record. Those three schools have too large a viewership to leave them out.

Committee only needs to select 10 teams. We already know that Alabama and Notre Dame are in.
