There isn’t enough content in this generation to justify a mid-gen hardware refresh.

frick this. So it's going to be at least $600 and then you'll need to spend an extra $80 for the detachable disc drive.

Needing a stand regardless of console orientation is so dumb.

Looks awful. Hated the original PS5 look and was praying at some point they would abandon it for a more conventional look.

Instead every revision has actually gotten worse.

PS5 slim looks worse than fat PS5

and PS5 pro looks worst of all.

It's such a misshappen mutant it can't sit in any orientation without help, and the "stand" they provide is hillarious. Imagine paying $600 for a gigantic heavy, warbed cube and the solution they give you is this.

They did it IRL

Sony has been a complete shite show the past 5 years IMO.

You can say their design is ugly but they’re crushing the market.

I'm not talking about financially, they are selling lots of PS5's I guess, but they are succeeding despite themselves.

Do we have specs on this?

What does this improve upon that would make me buy this instead of just keeping my OG PS5 with added SSD?

I doubt it will be worth the upgrade

It's just gonna run the same 60fps at higher average dynamic resolution

It's actually a beast upgrade tbh. 7700XT equivalent GPU at 33tflops base PS5 is 10tflops. About 3x the power.

It uses several features from the upcoming RDNA4 AMD GPU's (they call it RDNA 3.5) with its own DLSS/FSR called PSSR (Playstation Spectral Super Resolution) and this is what it will use to hit that 4K 120/144 targets and provide huge boosts to ray tracing as well. Works on older games as well and even PS4 on PS5 games. This is going to be pretty big for the console and the future now that it will have its own cutting edge upscaling tech.

quote:

The PS5 Pro can generate higher frame rates and “substantially” enhance image quality and Ray Tracing which is going to be the key differential between the PS5 Pro and the current standard PS5 console.

quote:

The information points towards the PSSR upscaling technology aiming to provide support for 4K 120fps and 8K 60fps on the new Pro console. Like Nvidia’s DLSS technology, PSSR looks set to use machine learning (ML) to provide better performance on the enhanced PS5 console. It aims to provide similar results to PC equivalents too.

According to analysis of the leaked materials (via Digital Foundry), it’s expected that the ML solution is integrated into the GPU itself. The method is hoping to achieve 1080p to 4K upscaling at a speed of two miliseconds and lines up with speeds offered by AMD’s non-ML FSR2 upscaler. But, Digital Foundry adds, quality is expected to be of a higher standard than the latter solution.

Analysis has also revealed that developer comments suggest the 250MB footprint of the PSSR technology will enable them to add the upscaling to existing PlayStation games. As such, it seems likely many regular PS5 games will get a boost from this technology on the PS5 Pro, not just specific titles launched with a more powerful machine in mind.

Christ, I had no idea this was in the works. Been begging for this in a console for some time now. Game changer.

Though I suppose we're gonna have to rely on devs to actually implement this. Not worried about Sony 1st Party obviously, but 3rd party may be an issue given that Xbox doesnt have an equivalent

Yeah it really is a game changer for the console and future ones. I'd like to think that even 3rd party will add it since it sounds rather simple and quick to do so and the PlayStation is just so popular compared to the Xbox.

Massive GPU upgrade plus PSSR is a huge update to the PS5.

yeah, i might donate my PS5 to my nephew since he's still on the PS4, and I'll get the pro.

The leaks I'm reading are 45% faster raster, 2-4x raytracing performance, 1.5 gb more of ram for games(actually 1.2), and PSSR. Although,I'm not sure how they're doing the ram. Forgot about the cpu and ram speed increase.
