UAW strike talks because Stellantis is cutting back on production

Has the strike threat of cutting production been discussed because they are already cutting production because of sales? Perhaps this is what happens when you are only making $70K plus trucks and you are Dodge.

That message of "Keep The Promise" was on full display Friday, referring to an agreement between the company and the union to reopen a closed plant in Belvidere, IL which Stellantis has now delayed, citing market conditions.
In response, Stellantis claims they’re not violating that contract, saying in a statement:
"To ensure the Company’s future competitiveness and sustainability, which are necessary to preserve U.S. manufacturing jobs, it is critical that the business case for all investments is aligned with market conditions and our ability to accommodate a wide range of consumer demands. Therefore, the Company confirms it has notified the UAW that plans for Belvidere will be delayed, but firmly stands by its commitment. As always, the Company is committed to engaging with the Union on a productive, respectful and forward-looking dialogue.
"The Company has not violated the commitments made in the Investment Letter included in the 2023 UAW Collective Bargaining Agreement and strongly objects to the Union’s accusations. In fact, the UAW agreed to language that expressly allows the Company to modify product investments and employment levels. Therefore, the Union cannot legally strike over a violation of this letter at this time."

Kind of my point, but if you deal with unions, this is what you get.
I wonder why these manufacturers don't let union contracts expire and have workers lined up to take their place the next day. Might take 2 weeks to get up to speed, but seems better than dealing with a union

Because there is no one looking for a job in an auto manufacturing plant where management has just cut wages or has labor issues. This the trouble with near full employment, you have a hard time finding scabs.

It's an economic strike.
UAW isn't even claiming unfair labor practices as far as I know.
Those are good jobs.
If they fired everyone, they'd have mile long lines.
One of the big issues in strike was temp worker status.

Yep. They would have no problem replacing union workers with good salaries and benefits and none of the headaches associated with unions. Look at non union auto manufacturers.

Stellantis is in a bad place. There’s a $180 law suit with a large dealer in Carolina. Every dealership is over loaded with expensive trucks. They stuck with the high price because the interest on the loans they took out to get their allotment is constantly rising. If they don’t sell the trucks they can’t pay the bill. And the payment with growing Interest keeps going higher. Caught in a lose lose situation.

We are at a time that unions are feeling their oats. They can strike for full medical benefits and hourly raises. It's kind of like the old days. But the economy is not that good. And because things work on a sine wave curve, they will eventually destroy the companies that pay their checks. I don't buy Dodge products. But I'm sure they will try the same stuff elsewhere.

I googled UAW workers the other day and about 97% of the images are of them protesting and picketing. There’s almost no pictures of them actually working

Boss: all right we will set the quota at 12 hoods and nobody can leave until it's done. this is a TEAM EFFORT
lazies: produce 4 hoods per day and make everyone else come " help" so they can all go home. Then stay late anyway to milk overtime.
ETA:: proceed to bitch and complain again when the overtime puts them in a higher tax bracket and they don't make that much more.

Has anyone bought a 18-24 wrangler lately.
Jeep has a major issue right now with corrosion that jeep is refusing to fix.
Customers are leaving like crazy. I don't blame them at all. They are also trying to sell the brand. I can see why they are failing. I mistakenly bought a use 18 Wrangler. took me to years to 4 new doors and new tailgate due to there problem. I totally see them going under again.

Because they're scared to fricking death of the talking points.
If ONE of the major car companies came out and said "We're out of the UAW's game" they'd absolutely clean up. Probably be the highest grossing manufacturer in the US.
