I’ve never really followed the silver/ gold investment before. I’m not one to purchase for bartering in a rough time even though it might be useful. But for long term growth it may be worthwhile.

If one were to start small and invest. Which silver/ gold would be worthwhile? Coins/ bars? Which year and type of bars? Circulated or not? Grams/ or OZ?

TIA

That’s not what precious metals are for. They are hedges against the debasement of a fiat currency.

This is a reason why I reached out for opinions/ guidance. People I’m speaking with think it would be used for the wrong reasons.

Seems like gold or silver ETFs would be the way to go

You don't buy gold/silver for long term growth. It is a hedge against currency debasement IMO, not growth/performance.

Thank you. I am clearly not well versed in this subject.

After further research from your responses it is clear now.

If you shop at Costco, they sell gold and silver. No extra charges if you charge it on visa card.

You have to keep checking periodically since Costco runs out quickly on the gold and silver.
My brother and i have picked up a gold bar, 2 gold coins and 2 20 pks of silver coins.
Need to read fine print. Can purchase up to quantity of 5 for that item #. We purchased 2 gold coins then wanted to do more but couldn't for that lot.

Lesson learned. No cost for putting on a credit card is nice. Go to other places the price per coin is much higher.

Correct …. if you want to purchase with a credit card, the two best options are generally Costco, and Apmex on eBay

Costco has purchase limits and a limited selection, but it’s a particularly good choice when starting out

If you’re just starting with silver or gold, coins are a great way to go. I’ve had good luck with American Gold Eagles and Canadian Silver Maples—they’re pretty popular and easy to trade. I’d recommend sticking with newer coins and bars in standard sizes like 1 oz. Bars are fine if you’re more into weight and less into collecting, but they can be a bit harder to sell. Just make sure you buy from a trusted dealer to avoid any issues.

From a practical aspect, if everything devolves, will having large amounts of gold bars help?

Buy a silver ETF. Silver has many industrial uses.
