A 32-year-old hunter is recovering after he was attacked by a brown bear and then shot amid the fray in Alaska.

The man's hunting party was attacked by a bear on the Resurrection Pass Trail near the town of Cooper Landing, in the vicinity of Abernathy Cabin, according to Alaska State Troopers. The Resurrection Pass Trail is located in southern Alaska.
The 32-year-old was "seriously injured" by the bear and the gunshot wound he suffered while trying to stop the attack. It's not clear who fired the shot that injured the man, officials said.

The bear was killed by the hunters in the attack.

Surviving brown bear attack with gunshot wound > not surviving brown bear attack

We need sensible gun control laws for brown bears!

Bet they wouldn't have shot it if it was a polar bear.

I think I heard this stat on the Meateater podcast but they said when a gun is used to stop a bear attack the person being attacked is shot around half of the time. My fraction may be off but I remember thinking gosh dang.

Grown men will get shaken up trying to shoot a deer and miss. Really not a stressful situation, but it causes that reaction for a lot of people. Now imagine being within a few yards of your buddy getting mauled by a bear, the stress, fear, and just general movement going on… yeah, I could definitely see that being a possibility.
With that being said, if my buddy missed a bear and shot me and I survived, I’d definitely give him shite for the rest of our lives

Whoops, I had the wrong character.

I hadn't thought about Jerry Clower in a long time. My grandfather and brother loved him.

Same here, it could be 10 years later and I'd expect him to pay for lunch since he shot me. IDK what would be worse, being shot or getting a bunch of open wounds hosed down with bear spray. One could kill you and the other would make you want somebody to kill you.

Was he hunting under the chicken tree, while the rest of the hunting party drank beer?

UPDATE:
Guy attacked by bear in Alaska shot himself in leg when attacked by bear.He had a 10 mm semi auto and emptied it into bear and killed it but also shot himself.
He was with his father who put 2 rifles shots in the bear for insurance.
Was making a video while waiting for helicopter to pick him up.No visible wounds from bear, apparently bear bit one of his legs.Guy was very cool about the whole deal.More than I would have been.

Fox News website has the story and video,I’m too dumb to do links(old boomer).
