Did anyone else get a nice little surprise from the tax collector in EBR. Mine went up almost 46 grand. I guess all govt agencies plan to bleed us dry.

I mean has the value of your property not gone up? I assume you would want to sell it for more today then when it was last assessed? All 4 of my properties also went up. Sucks but not unexpected.

Gotta make up those St George losses somewhere. And I’m just assuming St George is in EBR. Don’t really know

And instead of people banding together and refusing to pay these snakes, you’ll gladly write a check.

When will people stop being taken advantage of and stand up?

I love when my property rises in value.

It is 100% in EBR. That's the caveat of having St. George. No one left the parish with their money like those they've been accusing of white flight the past 50 years. When you realize no one left the city of Baton Rouge either you begin to wonder what all the fuss over St George was about.

Well most people’s taxes are escrowed into their mortgage and don’t have much of a choice. The mortgage company is going to send a check and raise your monthly note. It fricking sucks.

You can fight it. I bought a foreclosure in 2010 for 216k and they assessed it for 269K. I went down to their office in person and politely told them it was bullshite. They knocked it back down to 220.

Mine is up almost $42k. But assessment is still lower then what I paid two years ago and less then when houses are going for in same subdivision.

Everyone needs to stop voting for property taxes, we do it to ourselves. No matter how good the idea sounds usually the tax money doesn't goes where it's supposed to go or just gets wasted. The more taxes they get the more they waste.

It’s currently the most effective Gov scam. They waste the budget on useless programs. Then add raises for teachers, firefighters, police, etc, to the elections.

Voters fall for it every time.

Assessed value is not the same as appraised value.

Assessments should be based on sq footage and not an arbitrary figure that someone deems is fair. A sq ft is a sq ft, it doesn't matter what neighborhood it is located.

I heard on the radio the other day our state budget is around 44 million with a population of 4.5 million. Compare that to North Carolina with a 30 million budget and over twice the population at 10.7

We just think we are free. How can you own a piece of property but still have to pay taxes on it and if not it will be seized. Almost as bad as paying sales tax on a used vehicle.

I hate property taxes.

Mine went up quite a bit too. I guess the parish needs to generate some extra revenue for that St. George bill that’s coming due

If you think St. George won’t need the money either you are kidding yourself
It’s coming whether you like it or not
St. George will be paying as much as ascension in property taxes

Taxation is theft.

Montgomery county TX appraisal district has no shame when it comes to their assessments. They consistently raise my taxes every year.
