As the title suggests, I'm looking for recommendations for the best sunglasses lenses that are available for prescription. Frame style is secondary to optic quality, but still a factor.

Hard to tell what is best out of Serengeti (Barberini), Maui Jim, Smith, Randolph, etc., so I'm asking the experts on all things requiring expertise.

ETA: I have deuteranopia if that affects things at all.

Smith. The stuff they are doing with their lenses are pretty crazy right now. Sure, most on this board fellate Costas or Maui Jim but Smith is amazing.

It's all made by the same corporation and sold through all the different brands. As makes sense for the parent company bottom line, they share as many parts as possible across brands especially lenses.

I forget the name of the main corporation just now but it's easily googled. I found out by looking for frames in general.

Luxottica.

There are still a few independent shops, but I don't really care. Even within their umbrella, I think there are different lens suppliers and quality differences.

I like Smith a lot.

They're doing prescription now?

If I was spending the money for prescription lens, I'd still go MJ, just b/c they wear so well.

Is Smiths warranty as good?

I bought a pair of prescription Smiths with Chromapop lenses this year. I paid about $250 with a discount. I like them, but wanted aviators. My prior pair were Smith Serpicos.

Jims would have been first choice, but $800 for a pair of sunglasses was too much.

I get a new pair of WileyX Helix every 2 years and they take a beating offshore. A BEATING. Minor scratches is all I have ever had to deal with. I get the best lenses they offer, polarized, blue light canceling, and they are right at $350 (legit )

Off-topic. I went for an eye exam today for both glasses and contacts. It has been awhile. Do they not do the chart anymore?

They just did 4 machines side-by-side and never did the chart at all. I wondering if they were just rushing me in and out or have they stop with the wall chart.

My favorite pair of all time were Maui Jim's. They're excellent.

Doesn’t matter because if your are getting a prescription lens the optician will discard the stock lens that comes with the frame and replace it with a new prescription lens. Your eye doctor or optician will suggest the best lens for your prescription.

My understanding is that the prescription lens would be made of the same material as the standard model.

In essence, I am asking what high-end lenses are available in prescription, and baws' opinions between the options.
