always like seeing these...guys who played coming back to finish degree
That’s pretty good for a guy that once fielded a punt right at the goal line.

Kennison's shining moment came in 1994, when he returned a punt 100 yards for a touchdown in a 44-24 victory over Mississippi State. Letting the ball bounce over his head at the 5, Kennison retreated to the goal line where he was met by two State players

He was an electric player, especially at punt returner, on some really bad teams. Glad he went out a winner in '95

I’ll never forget that crazy game. If I remember correctly, he actually fielded it just outside the end zone and ran backwards into the end zone with the whole crowd screaming “NOOOO!” That was until we saw the wall of blockers lined up that gave him a shot to take it the distance and it very quickly changed to “GO!”
Earlier in the same game, Andre LaFleur drilled a kickoff low into the helmet of a State upman. The ball popped up and one of our guys covered it for one of the craziest accidental onside kicks I’ve ever seen. A fun game in an otherwise shitty season.

LSU former pitcher Zack Hess got his degree today through that same program for athletes finishing their degree requirements.

BATON ROUGE, La. – Former LSU pitcher Zack Hess received his college degree Friday after participating in the Academic Center for Student-Athletes Project Graduation program.
The mission of Project Graduation is to assist former LSU student-athletes with completing graduation requirements by providing counseling and information. The commitment to assist former student-athletes in obtaining a degree is always honored, no matter the length of time since they last attended LSU.
Hess was selected in the seventh round of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Detroit Tigers, and the right-hander has pitched four seasons in the club’s minor league organization.
He graduated from LSU with a degree in interdisciplinary studies, completing his remaining courses fully online.

My first 2 sports cards purchased as a kid was Eddie Kennison and Harvey Williams, good memories.

Dude used to roll up to Sports in a Porsche 968 in ‘95. Was always friendly too. Certainly an electric player who was fun to watch live
Didn’t know he works for LSU Athletics

Good guy. I tried to talk Eddie into returning to LSU for his senior year at Sports Illustrated one night back in the day. My pitch obviously wasn’t good enough. ??

He really is. I met him twice while at LSU. Once was in 93 and again in 95.
In 93, I actually got trucked by him in a pickup football game. I caught a pass in the flat and he came at me with a running start and blew my arse up. i was probably bigger than he was even then (probably about 195), but he had track leg muscles and a running start. I rolled over two or three times in the ground and everyone was cracking up and yelling. He came over and helped me up while laughing and said, “I had to do it,” but he gave me a nod for hanging onto the ball. That made it worth it.
The craziest thing about this was that it was an open date Sunday during football season and it was tackle with no pads. I was in the drumline and we went out to the band practice field to play some football most Sundays. That week Kennison and a bunch of track guys were already out there just messing around. We thought it was cool getting to play a little ball with a Tiger, and a great one at that, but it’s much crazier to think about now. There’s NO WAY IN HELL a P5 football player would be allowed to play a pickup tackle game with no pads with a bunch of randoms on a shitty field in the middle of a season. Different times, I guess.
The second time was after the Arkansas game in 95, which was huge since it sealed the first bowl birth in 6 years. That night he judged a toga contest at a party I went to. I think he lived in the same complex and just showed up. He was cool to everyone there. My now wife won second place in that one about two months before we started dating. We were already friends at the time and I remember her bragging that Eddie voted for her, even though she didn’t win. He was smart, because she looked sexy as hell that night.

I remember going to that game and we were chanting, Eddie, Eddie, Eddie...", and he returned it for a TD. I think that's how it went. It was a long arse time ago.

Tell me you lived in Lake Charles without telling me you lived in Lake Charles. Ha!
Eddie was the pride of Washington-Marion HS.
He followed up Todd Kinchen as LSU’s scariest weapon at WR/Returner during some dark days for the program.
That Indy Bowl win in ‘95 was fun as hell after so many shitty years.

I remember once in Allen hall, he walked out the classroom to tell students in the hallway to quiet down .

It sure was. 94 was sooooo bad after that Auburn disaster. I sat through some insanely bad football in 93 and 94 and when you’re in TGBFTL, there’s no getting up and leaving early to drink and tailgate some more.
I will never forget singing the Alma Mater after the Indy Bowl with fans all over the field singing along with flags waiving. It was great after the years that lead up to it.

That punt went over his head and was heading for a touchback in the endzone, when Eddie made the crazy decision to field it at the goal line. Terrible decision, with an amazing outcome.

Now that is something to be proud of way to go, I went back to school at 56 and picked up my MBA. It’s not easy studying after working all day.
