sloflow - the offense has long been referred to as a spread option. you have a fullback, 2 SLOTS and two wide outs in the basic formation. lineman have splits of 2-3 feet and you run the mid-line option.

agree

ponchy - your wing-t statement is bogus

agree x2. If you wanna see a wing T, go to a local AA high school game. This is NOT a wing t that GA Tech runs.

Absolutely. Technically a wing requires a back behind a TE to form the wing. Without the TE, he becomes a slot back and it isnt a wing. GT doesnt use a Tight End (accept in some short yardage type situations and it is someone else playing it. We dont have a TE on our roster).

You are correct. You cannot be a wing back without a TE.

I honestly don't know a ton about the Wing T, but I've looked up a little bit. I haven't found anything that shows option plays out of the Wing T formation. Is this y'alls understanding of it? There are fake handoffs but no options.

Adding options to the Wing is what makes it go....so many possibilities.

Isn't it really a variation of the spread? Florida ran a few triple option plays out of the spread. It is not the old Wishbone, as they don't have three running backs. They use a wide-out in motion for one of the options. That's more like a spread IMO...

Yes they do...

our slotbacks are typically your speedy halfback types with good hands, although a couple off our slotbacks are former wide receivers.

in most wing t offenses the qb does not read the dive option, rather it is called from the side line. the wing t is a sweep and counter offense

Well, to be fair, everything I know about option football (other than loving to watch it when it is well run), I have learned since PJ got hired last december. Ive read a lot of websites discussing the different offenses and how they developed. Part of it was figuring out all the technical terms so you can see the differences between say, what Urban Meyer is doing and what Paul Johnson is doing and what Rich Rod is failing to do.

Oh, and OT, Thanks for Anthony Allen. He has been impressive in practice this year, from what I have heard. I live in the ville, was at the MTSU game last year when he ran all over them.

GT does give spread offensive type of looks at times with huge splits from the offensive linemen and even splitting our the A-Backs.

and that's retarded

you're not spreading out shite if you have 3 backs and a QB all within the box

but what happened is that journalists got lazy and America is dumb, so all of this became "the spread."

So how do you explain Paul Johnson, himself, calling his offense the spread???
