Doing my 3rd rewatch and just got through with season 4. Tyrion just killed Shae with the necklace of the hand.

Made me wonder, do yall think shae ever loved Tyrion or was she using him the whole time?

Separate question/thought; it occurred to me when Roose was naming Ramsey a Bolton that Ramsey really switches personalities. Made me think Roose did some (at least) emotional torturing to Ramsey which turned him into the monster he is.

I think she liked him, but never loved him.

she was using him the whole time.

Roose did give Ramsay Reek so that one is at least somewhat his fault.

Re Shae’s feeling towards Tyrion - you have to understand what love means to a woman, especially to a woman who lived in that world.

Women love men like men love their job if it’s the best one you can find.

So, I think Shae saw Tyrion as the best man she could find and loved him until he no longer was.

She was absolutely using him. There’s some debate in the show about this, but none in the books.

That’s more the thing with Ramsay. Roose never liked or loved Ramsay, but Ramsay was rotten to his core and always was. Giving him Reek may have made him worse, but it was always innately in him.

roose was dumber than he looked if he didn’t know that Ramsay was going to shank him the second that kid was born. He should have taken care of that immediately

Nobody was unclear about Ramsay being a psychopath

In the book it is pretty much explicit that she is just a whore pretending for the money and that she also has more seedy motives.

i thought it would have been a good twist if he killed her and then found dad croaked over having been poisoned by her.

A subtle theme for the series (TV and book) was the underestimating of what a bastard could achieve. In that world, simply being a bastard came with the assumption you would never achieve much on your own (ie: only with the sponsorship of your sire). In that light, Roose underestimated what Ramsay was capable of because of his being born a bastard.

Book Ramsey is actually so much worse than show Ramsey. He had most likely killed more than one brother and the women that he'd "hunt" he'd rape and flay them, not just shoot them. He actually had another Reek before Theon that he treated just as bad and got him killed. He's just evil and always was.

Whores don't fall in love. Tyrion should have learned that years before.

It’s why I think Joffrey is a more despicable character than Ramsay in both the show and the books. Joffrey is a fricking pussy who is stupid, entitled, and exceptionally arrogant.

Say what you will about Ramsay, but Ramsay completely earned his positions. Ramsay is cunning, fearless, and will personally go get a job done himself.

In that way I find Ramsay more admirable if still as vile as Joffrey, but Joffrey being the single biggest coward in the franchise just really gets to me.

Well this unfortunately wasn’t elaborated on in the show even if it was set up, but Tyrion’s wife was actually exactly who she said she was. Jaime was forced by Tywin to lie to Tyrion that Tysha was merely a whore that he set him up with to lose his virginity because Tyrion wouldn’t believe Tywin but had extreme loyalty and blind following of Jaime.

It’s one of only two regrets in Jaime’s life (the other not protecting Rhaegar’s children from his father and just spent his time gloating on the Iron Throne waiting for Ned Stark), and after breaking Tyrion out of the black cells he tells him the truth (I’m guessing through Varys subtly coaxing him), to where Tyrion and Jaime at this point in the books are in an extremely bad spot compared to how they ever were in the show.

It’s also why Tyrion actually killed Tywin. Tywin through indirect ways has tried to get Tyrion killed on several occasions, so Tywin doing it one last time wasn’t going to make him go up to visit/kill his father. Varys pretty intentionally leads Tyrion at the bottom of the Tower of the Hand and feigns ignorance as he tells him exactly how to get to his father. Tyrion was there for information on what happened to Tysha and he kills Tywin over it especially when Tywin couldn’t even remember her name or what he did with her.

I've seen the series 2x and I decided to read the books. I'm reading "A Storm of Swords" now. Since I watched the series 1st, I always thought the way she was portrayed was that she loved him for what he was and of course was using him. Now that I'm reading the books, I feel like she is definitely a gold digger.

ETA...If you enjoy reading, I highly recommend reading the books. They go into such more detail, more is discussed about Robert's rebellion and the mad king.

They are fantastic books. But the recommendation should be "If you enjoy reading and don't care that you will never get a complete story, I highly recommend reading the books."

This is what has kept me away from these books. I will probably read them eventually but its hard to start a series that big knowing you will never get an ending.
