Of course the last 3 of China's events on that list are BS events. I would beat anything that China realizes they are an unathletic group, so purposefully train as hard as they can in the BS events like ping pong just so they can top the US.

I don’t see any Chinese entered in the Men’s 102 or women’s 81Kg weightlifting

ETA: For women, their contestant is in 81+
And I was looking at 102+ on the men (where they don’t have a contestant), so that’s my error.

Your point stands that there are two weightlifters

Rose Zhang has an outside shot in women's golf, doesn't she? And I guess Nelly could pull a Scheffler and shoot lights out and sneak on up there...

They"ll still be issuing medals after the Olympics are over.

Ping Pong started on July 27th and here we are two weeks later.

What are there weight classes like in wrestling? C'mon, man....this sport shouldn't have 24 medals allocated to it.

It appears we should come close to matching our gold medal total for 2020 (21), which was 39

It should only be men’s single, men’s team, women’s single, women team, and mixed team right? That’s 5 gold and 15 medals total right?

Yes, it basically has the same setup as tennis.

If we want to pull away from the Chinese in golds in the future, we’ll need to start competing for golds in Diving (8 events), Shooting (15 events), Boxing (13 events) or Weightlifting (10 events).

Those are sports with high medal counts that China racks up golds.

we had a relatively down year in the pool.

Still top dog but we won 11 Gold medals in 2020 and 8 this year.

We still have a chance in women's 1500m, men's 800m and 5000m. We're by no means favorite in any of those but after the performances we've had I wouldn't say there's zero chance.

Yes and having the top male swimmer instead of France probably puts us over the top this Olympics, but if we want to pull away from China in the future we’ll need to add some competition in these sports they dominate.

Ironically, not having Russia compete probably benefits China more than us. Synchro swimming, boxing, and shooting are sports where Russia often bests China for gold.

I’m not sure if what Bednarik did could be considered professional relay running or not…..it sure looked rough.

At this point I don't care if the Algeria literally whips
out a dick if she beats this chinese boxer.

Frankly I suspect we’ve seen the last of American athletes that can go out there and will themselves to victory regardless of “mental health” like guys like Phelps did….like Lebron and KD did against Serbia. Dressel couldn’t do it. I hope I’m wrong but with the next generations of athletes I’m not seeing that ultimate do whatever it takes to win mentality for the most part.
