In the hours after Vice President Kamala Harris announced Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate, allies of former President Donald Trump rushed to denigrate the Minnesota Democrat, seizing on criticism of his handling of the riots in the wake of George Floyd's murder in May 2020.

"He allowed rioters to burn down the streets of Minneapolis," Ohio Sen. JD Vance, the Republican candidate for vice president, said Tuesday.

But at the time, Trump expressed support for Walz's handling of the protests, according to a recording of a phone call obtained by ABC News -- telling a group of governors that Walz "dominated," and praising his leadership as an example for other states to follow.

"I know Gov. Walz is on the phone, and we spoke, and I fully agree with the way he handled it the last couple of days," Trump told a group of governors on June 1, 2020, according to a recording of the call, in which he also called Walz an "excellent guy."

"I was very happy with the last couple of days, Tim," Trump continued. "You called up big numbers and the big numbers knocked them out so fast it was like bowling pins."

Trump also suggested on the call that it was his encouragement that sparked Walz to call in the National Guard: "I said, you got to use the National Guard in big numbers," Trump said. A spokesperson for the Harris-Walz campaign said Wednesday that was untrue.

Karoline Leavitt, a spokesperson for the Trump campaign, said Trump lauded Walz only after the governor heeded his advice to enlist support from the National Guard.

So what ABC is saying is that he handled it so poorly that he even got a seal of approval from Trump?

After the stolen valor, child grooming and no free speech stances we're hearing about Walz, time for the legacy media to run interference.

Trump was listening to his handlers who were backstabbing him all the time.

Do you believe kids should be transitioned without their parents consent like your nominee does?

Did Trump praise the man’s daughter for posting on twitter that the national guard will take time to mobilize so there’s no fear of arrest? Also, once the national guard went in yes, it did quell the riots. Sending in the guard most sane people would support but how may days did it take and at what point were they called up? If we’ve learned anything, the longer time goes on the more failures we see.

Maybe this has something to do with the compliment.

The Truth is that after the state had suffered massive damage, Trump publicly threatened to mobilize the guard himself if Walz didn't. Walz caved and made the call. Trump praised him for that. Which is what a president is supposed to do.

The funniest part is, when Trump said that he had to step in to get the guard mobilized, CNN fact checked him and gave all the credit to Walz.

Sounds like the typical out of context article and that Trump was happy with "the last couple of days" when they actually started breaking up the riots and rioters, not the entire burning down of the city.

This isn't anything new, the transcript was available at the time.

He also named Walz to his Board of Governors or whatever its called, and praised him.

It really doesn't matter at all though, its all about framing and framing Walz as a nutcase that let Minnesota burn is easy work

That was on June 1st, 6 days after George Floyd overdosed on a concoction of various drugs, before the riots got going in full force. A different story when they started burning down the city

Do you believe children should be removed from their parents if their parents don't agree to let them be mutilated?
