I've always known who he was and that my fellow musician friends respected him dearly, but I've never really listened to his music...until now.
I've been listening to Snakefinger radio on Pandora (Snakefinger stems from Ralph Records, same as The Residents). On occasion, songs would come on that I would really love and would have to check to see who it was. Yep, Frank Zappa. I've since picked up a few CDs at my local library, and this music has opened up a whole new world. I've always been into the genre, having seen King Crimson live a half a dozen times for instance, but for whatever reason, Zappa has completely flown under my radar.
What a game changer, and I can't wait to hear more.

You are in for a ride. Zappa's catalog is almost overwhelming, especially nowadays with all the posthumous live releases. I'm not anywhere near a Zappa guru but just his 70s output is ridiculously great, with various iterations of his band.
I'm a jazz fan so his work that has jazz influences, post 1968 and the Mothers of Invention, is where it really picks up for me. Starting with Hot Rats, there's an incredible run of records there.

Zappa is great. Check out Captain Beefheart too.

Hot Rats is one of the CDs I checked out. Amazing.

His live stuff is really good too. His band were always top notch musicians. You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Vol. 2 is my favorite in that excellent series.

As eclectic as his catalogue is, as a new listener you should check out Strictly Commercial. A greatest hits of sorts. Worth a listen.

Would you say that FZ is the best band you never heard in your life?

Easily, and it's not even close.
