Or parents of students/grads?
My son is wanting to go and I’d like to hear any experiences or comments.
Dunno if this is the right board but doesn’t hurt to ask.
Thanks
T

They’ll either come out gay or communist.

I'd steer clear of this board. They'll convince you your son is better off slinging wrenches and freon.

I know a lot of service academy grads. It's a tradeoff just like anything else in life. First it's very hard to get in - start trying to get noticed early with your local politicians that get to make the appointments. Second, it takes a certain personality type and I'd make sure you are congruent with that because a mismatch might be very frustrating. Third it is a totally different lifestyle. It's not college, but it is, if you know what I mean. There is a social life but it is 180 deg different than frat parties or even GDI life at LSU, bama, etc...
There is a huge reward though - one of the best alumni networks in the world (not only are you a West Pointer, but you'll have your Army buds too). Access to very high level post-service hiring in tech, engineering, finance, aviation.
I would also look at the military culture trends lately. There is a huge DEI component that didn't use to be there. The services are losing a lot of good people.

You came to the wrong place. Many posters on here are Kremlin Point grads.

The West Pointer that sat by us at the Army game last year bitched about his team so much he could have passed as an LSU fan.

What would you like to know? If you're in BR area I would be more than happy to visit with you.

Spent a good amount of time with a lot of west pointers in the army. They were either awesome or complete shitheads. No in between

It's 95 percent of West Pointers that give the rest of them a bad name, frankly.

My cousin went to West Point and stopped talking to his entire family, so there's that. Didn't have the greatest relationship beforehand, but the Army became the only people he cared to interact with.

Look I take every comment. There’s been some that are better than others but no judging .
He has a 4.5 gpa. Genuinely a nice kid, looks you in the eye when you speak, shake your hand and a yes sir type. He loves this country and doesn't quite have direction at 16.
He not a skinny athletic type, plays football on the O line and D line. Not sure he wants to go to college but got a great Math mind. I’m not sure how to guide him as he is young wanting to do his best in whatever path.
West Point has been mentioned so I jump in here to get some feedback

What does he want to study?
How old is he?
(I was intense and was looking before my freshman year in high school, easier to get in if you can beat the wave)
In my view Navy > Army > Air Force
If he is gung ho and does not make the cut, VMI and VPI were good options. Lots of VMI grads in the family and they all did well in life.
EDIT : I really hate autocorrect

The Army doesn't deserve your son.

Very good friend of mine went to West Point. He described it as a horrible place to be, but a great place to be from.
