Another white pickup in the surf? Salvage update on page 2.

No. Stuck in the mountains this time.
Friend’s truck slid sideways on trail. No real rocks hit the sidewall but wheel collapsed inward.
This is a logging trail
One mile up and one mile down. Rugged if not difficult.
Wrecker says he charges two hundred per hour, per tow truck needed, to get down there and pull it out. Two wreckers are needed.
Wrecker says this is the fifth GM that has had this happen this year.
Wrecker owner said, “youre fckd if y ou want this today.”

Imagine taking a 70k truck on a trail ride.

And anyone with any knowledge of 4WD suspension geometry could have seen this coming from a mile away.
Back in 1988 when GM went to IFS, lift kits used these godawful tall arse knuckles with diff drop brackets to get the lift.
They broke ball joints with reckless abandon and people that really wanted to wheel GM did solid axle swaps.
Hence why today, Wranglers and Super Dutys and HD Rams are still solid axle- you give up on the ride and handling, but the robustness is infinitely higher than an IFS vehicle.
Sooo, what do the manufacturers do?
“Everyone wants a lifted truck!”
“Lets run 33s or 35s on a OEM platform!”
“We can sell it for $70,000!”
One smart person in the meeting says…
“But there is no cost effective way to do this with IFS and it be reliable”
The marketing people say…
“Who gives a shite? You guys just cast some aluminum knuckles that look like the lift kit ones from the 90s and we’ll call it something cool. They can have 33s from the factory. No one will notice that it’s a huge POS because 95% of them live in a subdivision”

That's horseshite.
My truck came factory with 33s, coilovers in the front. Shocks and leafs in the rear.
Replaced bilstein 4100s with bilstein 6100s in front. Replaced oem upper control arm with dirt king. Replaced lower with diet king mid travel.
Replaced rear shocks with bilstein 5160 bypass shocks.
Preemptively replaced balljoints and bearings at 140k miles when mid travel was installed.
It gets jumped daily.
No failures.
Why? Because the oem bearings and ball joints aren't made out of chinese pot metal. Bearings were made in USA. Balljoints were made in japan.

And you don’t jump your daily, daily.
And before you say I don’t know what I’m talking about, the last truck I worked on regularly had 18” Bilstein coilovers, was four linked front and rear, and had a STEERABLE 14 bolt up front. Because no one makes Dana 60 stuff tough enough for what we were doing. So we made- not a shop- we, my friends and me made a 40 spline steerable 14 bolt.
Apparently carrying a 115 mph wheel speed in 3rd gear with 47” tires and launching it- is really hard on stuff.

It would be just as strong with the $600 upper control arms. The balljoints and bearings are oem Nissan.
As for jumping it daily, twice a day, every day, all four wheels leave the ground. Cross railroad tracks at 55 headed north. Cross them at 70 headed south in the evening as the approach is different
Reverse those speeds and you won't land before the road curves, or when headed home the rear would stay on the geound too long and buck you all over the place.
The last 4 daily drivers have all had at least mid travel. No long travel since....2012 or so. Although I don't really consider the 11 in to be mid travel....

Brother…y’all could fix that up there and save a tow fee.
Bug spray, control arm, cv axle, more of those miller lites. Probably kinked some stuff also.
I’d anchor that reaaalllll good before jacking it up though.

If its anything like I've experienced with being on the western side of a hurricane, you'll get about 1/10 of the predicted rain.
This is especially true if you have some recently planted foodplots.
