Cruise control and gas mileage

I discovered today that my truck gets 24 mpg when I drive 55 mph and 16 mpg when I drive 70 mpg.
Apologies to anyone driving I-10 to the panhandle today. Unless you flipped me off.

Yea but you burned the extra 8 gallons by getting to your destination slower.

That can’t be correct, and why did you occupy the left lane for 20 miles at 55 mph????

When you’re young, you drive faster as a rebel. When you’re old you drive slower as a rebel.

That’s the reason they gave us for lowering the speed limit to 55 back in the day. They wanted to conserve fuel since there were shortages.
The speed limits were 70 and 75 before that. It pissed me off because I was starting to drive at that time.

Had you cranked it up to 110, you would've gotten 48 mpg. Half the time and double the value.

Congrats on saving $15 and taking an extra hour to get there while you almost killed 10 people on interstate.

Congratulations, your cheap arse made the road more dangerous for everyone around you. Be less poor.

Guy probably spent 70k on a truck and then takes it on long trips worrying about gas prices

Did you not learn wind resistance in high school?

Yeah, but you’re pushing against it one less hour.

You are going too slow, my car makes gas when I go over 160. If I leave out for a trip over three hours I have to make sure the tank is below 1/4 or gas will start spraying on the cars I am passing.
