What to do in Rome

My wife and I are spending two days in Rome. We are going to Vatican for some. What else do we do?

Quick time there. Rome can be ultra chaotic and you can deal with a lot of long lines and traffic. I would book tours and whatnot and pay for skip the line stuff to maximize your time.
Since you have so little time, don't try to just pack it all in. Prioritize what you really want to see.
The two musts are obviously the Vatican (Sistine if you can), and the Colosseum. After that its a matter of preference.
Roman Forum
Pantheon
Trevi Fountain
Spanish Steps
are kinda some of the other major things

Make sure to carve out some time to just enjoy the city and its day to day life. Get in an aperitif at an outside restaurant or cafe and just people watch.

Be careful of them frickers on the vespas and motorbikes. They will run over you.

We did a walk through the centro storico and Trastevere. Private tour (which is all she does) but was a great exploration of the history of Rome and the food that shaped it. We had our young daughters with us and it was their favorite part of whole trip. Probably all of ours if being honest.

They have a big football stadium or something that's supposed to be pretty popular.

I got my tickets for next season’s Saints vs Lions game there!
Thanks for the eating tour suggestion - bookmarking that.
The ceiling of the Sistine Chapel was one of the few things I’ve looked at and knew I was looking at something incredibly special.

Did an cruise excursion to Rome, had to choose between the Vatican and the Colosseum. We chose the Colosseum, but didn't have a tour lined up until we got into Rome. Basically lucked into a tour company pitching on the street. It included a bunch of the buildings along the way to the Colosseum and then walked around the Colosseum itself. We really enjoyed it but ran out of time because of meeting our bus. Had to hoof it back across Rome real quick because we wanted to see the Pantheon before we left.

The Rome posts in this thread are over 7 years old. I think people want a more fresh review.

And you can do all of these in one day.
Outside of visiting the Vatican, there are some incredible cathedrals in Rome as well:
St. John Lateran
St. Peter in Chains
St. Paul’s Outside the Wall

The parts of the city that people want to see are hundreds of years old. What needs to be freshened?
The reason for my previous post is do your fricking research people. There's so much information online about destinations like Rome and a seemingly endless supply of travel blogs and reviews.

Schedule a “tractor pull” at the coliseum. Never been but Roy D Mercer is setting one up in the fall. Its the same coliseum that Rusty Crowe made that movie at.

While the Colosseum may be hundreds of years old, the area around it (which is under construction) is not, the restaurants around it are not, and the tour company/method may be different. 7 years is a long time in the travel industry.
New attractions and amenities: Destinations evolve constantly. New hotels, restaurants, and activities may have opened, while others may have closed or changed significantly.
Price fluctuations: Costs for transportation, accommodation, and activities can vary greatly over time, making older reviews less relevant for budgeting.
Technological advancements: Improvements in technology can impact travel experiences. For example, a review that mentions slow Wi-Fi or limited mobile coverage might be inaccurate now.
Shifting priorities:
Traveler preferences change over time. What was considered a luxury seven years ago might be standard now.
Relevance for current travelers:
Older reviews might mislead potential travelers about what to expect.
Encouraging fresh perspectives: Outdated reviews can be replaced by newer ones that offer more relevant information.
