Was in AR last week and think I got bit by one. Have a nasty area on my calf.
I suspect it got in my waders but I never knew it.

Looked like a chigger bite and then got really red and developed a black area in the center and then a little necropsy with it. There is a hole about the size of a pencil eraser.

Sounds correct.
Only been bitten by black widows myself. They leave one helluva welp.

Have a low grade fever off and on but that’s about it.

More off than on

Yes, I was bit on the eyebrow and had to get plastic surgery. I still am missing half of my brow hair but I no longer have a huge hole.

My mom was bit right below her front shoulder on her chest. At first she thought it was a boil then came the fever and vomiting a day later. She ended up in the hospital where they lanced the bite and installed a drain tube. It was amazing the puss and infection that the doctor would get out when he would press on it every couple hours. Piles of IV antibiotics and a week later she went home.

Got bit by one on the outside of my calf when I was in high school. Itched for a few days and got more and more red/irritated. It started swelling so we went to get it checked out. Had to go on antibiotics for a while. It swelled up the size of a baseball and the nasty looking stuff would come out of it. I got to miss a couple weeks of two a days for football which was a nice consolation prize.

I don’t know what kind it was but I have been spider bit really bad once. I started a new job running a yard/warehouse. My first order of business was to organize and clean up the tool room. This summbitch got under my pants and into my boots. A week went by and I had a purple mark about the size of a quarter and more redness around it. I had picked it good but it wasn’t going away. Ended up getting some antibiotics to clear it up.

Now having said that I’m tending another bite right now but not nearly as bad.

Dude at work got bit. Filleted his forearm pretty damn good to get it all out. Multiple surgeries later and it still looks like somebody had at him with a router or a grinding wheel

Was doing electrical work under a house when I was about 20. Got me on the right shoulder blade. Nasty critters. Don’t remember getting sick or even feeling it bite me, but it left a hole the size of a silver dollar that didn’t heal for about 6-7 months.
Amazing how much damage spider poison can do, when there is so little of it.

I got bit on the left side of my belly as I was helping move Mom from HSV, AR to the Funroe area.

There's nothing fun about wearing a seat belt directly over the open, weeping, wound for several hours while bouncing over the roads.

My son got bit by one while at school in Arkansas. It ended up getting infected and he got sepsis and ended up having to have surgery on his neck to remove the infection that had him almost paralyzed.

Go to the doctor and take the antibiotics. Trust me.... my son wishes he had taken the antibiotics he was given.

In case all the above responses don't make it clear. GO TO THE DOCTOR NOW. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200.

Those bites do not get better on their own but they will 100% get worse.

Disregard at your own risk. Come back and give us a report update.

I have. I was taking a break at work took off my long sleeve shirt. When I put it back on I felt something crawling on side, shook my shirt and a brown recluse fell out. A day or so later I had a wound develop under my left armpit. Had to get on antibiotics and it cleared it up.

My brother was bitten by one while looking for a golf ball on a course we were playing near Charleston.

Nasty little bites ... he had to have a couple of shots.

Never been bitten by one thank goodness but knew a man in Houston area back in the early 90s who eventually succumbed to a bite from a Brown Recluse. This was a healthy 80 year old man, cleaning out a storage shed, who was bitten between his index and middle finger on his left hand. Like most men thought little of it. Started getting infected or doing what they do and still did nothing. Started noticing red streaks running up his arm....finally went to the doctor. They eventually amputated most of his left hand...it was in BAD shape but the damage was apparently beyond repair....he lived about a year after being bitten, about 6 months after amputation. It was a bad year...he went downhill quick, from a very active 80 year old who still drove, cut his own grass and hunted and fished regularly to being nearly immobile and bed ridden for the last 7 or 8 months of his life. They are serious. He died of heart failure, not a spider bite, but it was at least directly connected. Imagine living 80 years, being healthy, having spent a good deal of his life outdoors (he was an electrician so he was outdoors a lot) and being basically brought down by an insect bite. Of course had he sought medical help faster it may have been different.
