Driver of 18-wheeler killed after crash left semi dangling over I-10

Kiran

BATON ROUGE — The driver of an 18-wheeler reportedly lost control and crashed into a guard rail on I-10 Monday morning, killing him, according to Baton Rouge police.

The scene unfolded around 8:30 a.m. on July 22. Photos show the cab of the semi hanging over parts of I-10 eastbound at the base of the Mississippi River bridge near the I-10/I-110 split.

There are reports that fuel may have spilled on the interstate.

The right two lanes on I-10 east past Nicholson Dr. are blocked. Only one lane is open, allowing vehicles to pass, and congestion is approaching LA 415, according to DOTD.

Likely the fault of some dipshit cutting off the 18 wheeler who cant slow down fast enough and then swerves.

But plenty of cameras there, should be able to see what happened

I bet several years go by before those guard rails are replaced if ever.

Just by looking at those pictures, it doesn’t seem like that would be deadly. Terrible nonetheless.

Doesn't help that the road was wet as well.

Am I the only one wondering how the driver died in that? Medical emergency?

Medical emergency

Good possibility. Heart attack or something similar causing the accident

Could have had a medical emergency that caused the crash.

From WAFB

Preliminary reports reveal the 18-wheeler was jack-knifed and the driver was ejected. The driver has not been identified.

Seems to always be a 18-wheeler involved. This is the 3rd 18 wheeler in less than a week involved in deadly accidents. They need yearly driving safety, specific driving times and if cause a wreck or a tickets occur, lose trucking license for 1 year. They cause too many issues on the road.

Prolly was this. Saw one of these jackasses do this the other night on the interstate between Acadian and College. And then the idiot got mad at the 18 wheeler and tried brake checking him. I know they can’t really post cops on this stretch of the interstate, because there’s no where for them to safely be at to monitor the traffic, and there’s no where to pull anyone over at, but they need to do something to deter people from driving 80+mph from the split, all the way to Scenic Hwy. Especially since any wreck in this area, fricks up traffic for the entire city.

Because the media always reports it as "an accident involving an 18-wheeler", not "an accident caused by an 18-wheeler". Michigan State statisticians went over crash data a few years ago and found that over 85% of those accidents were not the fault of the truck driver.

Thanks. The media should be more clear.

I can easily believe that.
I rarely see 18 wheeler drivers doing something stupid, but every single day I see someone in a car or pickup do something stupid.

Probably wasn't wearing a seatbelt and went chest/headfirst into the dash.
