I felt like I should share this for anyone interested:

I’ve had a surround sound system for two years and always used streaming apps.

LOTR was listed on Prime Day for 4K for like 40 bucks.

Physical media on my PS5 with surround sound is incredible.

That's good enough for me.

It's not so much the resolution but the compression that streaming uses that kills the quality. This especially evident in the audio.

You want it in BluRay honestly. 4K makes some of the special effects age (particularly Gollum) while it all still looks fantastic in BluRay.

Absolutely. You never truly own anything if it's streamed. Amazon can remove access to purchased movies whenever they want.

Additionally they can edit your digital download. So if they edit the novel Lord of the Rings and just want your to read a Woke version of it, they can do it.

Absolutely, that’s why I continue to buy physical blu ray and 4K. Total game changer for the home entertainment experience. Also, I like to be able to watch something whenever. Not rely on a streaming catalog month to month.

There are a lot of good movies you can't stream or download.

OR you have to join a service to get them. Saw the Offer in B&N for less than $20. Got it. Beats subscribing to Paramount just to watch it.

Like P.C.U. Which is apparently now a documentary.

Ps5 isn’t even a good player either.

When dune came to hbo I could barely watch it, the sound was all off. Bought the 4k disc and was much better.

Also charter had an outage the other night and was able to just watch a disc because the internet was down.

It’s mostly fine. It doesn’t have Dolby vision. A good 4k player will cost you the same as the ps5. So if you already have a ps5 I wouldnt worry about spending the money for a UB820.

If you aren’t a gamer I wouldn’t buy the ps5 as a player.

I bought a PS5 in anticipation of the new college football game. I used to have a dedicated 4K player. The difference is pretty negligible unless you're going for the top line 4K player.

I have two Oppo 203s and two 205s that I will never get rid of, I just had one repaired by Oppo last year. (yes I was surprised they still supported them) I am thinking about ordering one of the new Magnetar UDP800s when some objective technical reviews come in. The Panasonic 820 is as much as most people need though.

I hit eBay and Amazon a couple of times a month and add to my collection of 4k discs.
