Push Back from Cell Phone plan in public schools.

I will never understand the break down of the public school system and the Poosie stance taken by administration. How did our society get to the point that kids cannot be given strict rules for learning and discipline in a public classroom and school space? Making no one accountable (parents and their kids) for a clear safe learning environment.
The older I get, the more I do feel angry, saddened and defeated by what has become of the USA. \rant.

One of the big draws for private education.. the learning environment on all fronts is massively increased with a ban on phones.

Pretty dumb take here. We had cellphones with us in the event that we needed to call our parents after school in case of an emergency or if theres a sudden change in your afternoon plans. It's fine to have one. It becomes a problem when you are using it during school hours to distract yourself from class.

The parents are the problem, all they do is make excuses and deflect blame for their child’s behavior

Shitty public schools in America are by design.

Reading the article it says that the opposition feels they do not have enough manpower to enforce the rule. They feel like strange rules will need to be used to make it happen. It isn't an unreasonable opinion that technology might be able to help with

Don’t agree with this at all. You can’t expect teenagers to have the distraction in their pocket, and then have the self discipline not to use it.
That’s why there’s office phones. In 2006-2009 we had a strict no cell policy. To the point that we got 5 days iss if caught with one.

My biggest issue with the ban is the enforcement on buses. I completely get the reason for enforcement in school, but on buses? Why is that even part of the ban?

Yeah we had cell phones in HS too but I was in school pre-iphone and it was just a shitty flip phone. I think it had tetris and snake on it but besides that it was only for calling and texting.

Well that’s the problem... the students not having the respect or discipline to not use it.
An outright ban is an insane take.
It’s completely unreasonable and unrealistic to send your child to school nowadays without a phone or a way to communicate directly with them. It’s not even high school, elementary school kids are being sent to school with ways to communicate to their parents directly. It’s just a new world. Expecting that direct channel to be shut is delusional.
We took cellphones to high school. If you were caught using it during school, it was taken away. The real problem now is the teachers aren’t able to take them way without repercussions unfortunately.

shite I got suspended for bringing a beeper to school. The only “distraction” was deciphering beeper codes
Kids will be fine if they aren’t allowed to use their phone during class.

I find that very concerning that admins feel they can’t control the children and feel they need more manpower to enforce the rules. It’s frightening that kids are so wild.
And I agree that it’s ok to have a cell phone on their person, but keep it turned off during school hours.

How did kids survive in schools before cell phones?

They didn’t. They all died

People survived in the past without AC, but would not want to go somewhere now without it.

I've been a parent for not too long, but I fully understand it wasn't long ago that I was a teenager and my parents just had to trust that I would do the right things. This included being responsible in the classroom. What do most young people do when you decide to take things from them? Find other ways to do said things or find other things to do. You cannot stop it. Establish boundaries. They know what's right and wrong.

What sucks is having to monitor the out of school searches on their laptop and having to intervene 24/7
