Will the seat that just opened up with the death of Jackson Lee remain open?

Or will Gov Abbot appoint someone to finish out the term of Jackson Lee?

I'm curious what happens there. I don't know how Texas laws address this.

Well the election is so close that I doubt it would matter very much. I was just hoping that Gov Abbot might be able to appoint a good candidate and that person might be able to take that seat away from the Dems long term.

Her district is as blue as it gets.

A Republican appointment by Abbott would lead to bloodshed.

Oh well

If the shoe was on the other foot, the dems would certainly take advantage

Abbott will issue a proclamation of a special election to fill Jackson Lee’s position.
In accordance with the Texas Election Code, the special election must be held at least 36 days after the Governor announces it.

Not a chance that the seat will flip.

Assume the Dem party will put up Amanda Edwards, who lost to Lee in the primary.

She's a true Dem, but she's a massive upgrade to SJL.

The Harris County Democrat Party will hold a nominating convention and the precinct chairs that serve the precincts of the 18th will nominate a replacement

Well I was kind of hoping that maybe some of this new support Trump is getting in the Black community might show up to elect a Republican candidate. Since the Dems are in disarray and special elections are usually low turnout I was hoping at least the R’s might steal it away from the Dems for at least 1 cycle anyway.

This isn’t a district for that hope to materialize. Not even worth considering.

Never seen that map. Gerrymandering at its best, almost as bad as some Louisiana districts.

Being from outside the state I will take your word for it. I was thinking though that if the R’s could steal this seat away then that might be a good indication that a Republican supermajority might be in play at least on the House side.

Of course not. They kept re-electing her. You know those people that voted for her are a few sandwiches short of a picnic. Why would anything g change?

Agreed, these are the same idiots that re-elected Dora, and KP George. He's brown, must be smart? Dolt.
